I have 50 chicks out of today's hatch at Meyer. 30 Rare Layer Assortment and 20 LeAnn's Adopt Me Special. Fingers crossed. I'm looking forward to their arrival in the next couple of days. Squee!
yay, so many chicks, exciting!

Can't wait to see what you get!

An update. My chicks are almost a month old now, and for the most part doing well. They move around so much, it's really hard to get pictures now.

My Black Australorp has toes that curl inwards instead of down, which means she has more trouble perching than the others, but it wasn't noticeable until recently and she seems to be making it work. It looks like her beak is also growing in with an underbite, which isn't a problem for her now, and I'm hoping it stays that way instead of getting worse. You can kind of see her toes on the right, this is from last week, and they did not want to pose.

The silver laced polish is getting huge and feisty, but has a funny little extra toe nail on one foot.

I got two mystery color Silkies, one of which is white and looking very good, far better than I expected from a hatchery. The other is buff, and clearly not going to have much of a top knot. The buff also has lots of smut on the wing feathers, which I think is pretty, but definitely as pet quality as they come.

Saddest, my little Brahma Bantam passed away today. One morning I found her looking a little trampled, under the ecoglow brooder where they all sleep. I separated her, and helped her eat and drink. Some days, it looked like she was improving, but then she'd start getting shakier again, and the wings that she was never good at holding in tight got droopier. Today, she wasn't even interested in the cherry soy ice cream that was her favorite, so I want surprised to find her home a few hours later. She never feathered in like the rest, and she was always the most timid. I'll miss the way she would cuddle into my hand.

So, a couple of little birth defects, but my eight healthy chicks are a joy to watch and play with.
So sorry to hear about your brahma bantam. You're other chicks are so cute. I hope they all do okay and the underbite and extra toe does not cause too much trouble for your BA. I've never seen one with an extra toe nail, that's odd.

Everyone else getting all the new chicks, congrats! Have they arrived yet? Would love to see pics, if you can.

All the male unknowns are from Meyer's pan fry mix and they couldn't tell me what they were, any Ideas?

Well, the black ones with the white spot on their heads are barred Plymouth Rocks, and it looks like you got a few blue laced red Wyandottes, too. The ones you labeled as partridge Plymouth Rocks are definitely your partridges, as they look just like my little ladies did as chicks. :) That's all I can tell for sure at this point. The white broilers should grow a lot faster than the others, so you should be able to identify them in a week or two by how big they are.

Those are the only ones I can identify as well. But they are all very cute!!!!

Lynn- any signs you'll get eggs soon?? I am 'babysitting' for my neighbor that has 12 chickens and 2 guinea hens and I'm getting about 10 eggs a day so I'm seeing what it's like when my girls finally start to lay. Holy cow that's a lot of eggs!!!

Does anyone sell their eggs or have plans to? Everyone is asking me if I will sell them but I'm still undecided.

Received chicks yesterday and snapped some pics - I ordered chicks from the June 3rd hatch - Meyer Hatchery. Two assortments - the "rare Breed" all pullets - and the LeeAnn's Adopt me special which are straight run chicks. I'm going to put my best guess down, then as they are IDed I'll edit the captions.

Love all those chicks pictures! Some of the chipmunk looking ones could be brown leghorn, welsummer or easter eggers from my experience.

Nancy - No eggs yet, I keep searching. Today is so rainy, so everyone is staying in the coop. I'll be out searching for eggs again tomorrow. I have some pics of the big and little chicks I took yesterday, I'll try to upload them soon. Those combs and wattles are getting bigger and redder!

The chicks are adorable! Did they all arrive safe and healthy?
I'm not great with ID'ing chicks but any with green legs would be EE's right? And yes, a few of those look like my white cochin but with a couple spots on the head so maybe mottled.

Bigger and redder at this age is a good thing!!! They're almost 17 weeks old... maybe soon :)
