Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

Congrats on the egg Lynn! As far as the weed killer goes I heard 3 weeks (had the same prob ex it was hubby who sprayed the weed killer) after the 3 weeks they were fine. It rained a lot here the first week he put it down tho so I'm sure a lot got washed away. But that's a long time to keep chickens locked up.

how long ago did they spray? I believe the label says you should keep it dry for 4 hours after spraying or it won't take effect. Maybe if you water the heck out of it now it will at least wash some away and not have to keep them inside as long? Can you trim the grass/weeds really really low so they won't eat it?? sheesh, that's gonna be tough to keep them inside that long. so sorry.

They sprayed about 3 hours ago. The guy had already weed whipped before he sprayed, but I don't think that will keep my chickens out of it. I'm not willing to test it either! I have 3 hens who spend all day picking for bugs right around the edges of the garage, barn, house, etc. I don't even know what I'm supposed to do. I don't have a hose long enough to water all of the places he sprayed.

Thanks for all of the help everyone. It's much appreciated. Looks like I'll have to buy some cabbages and watermelon to keep the chickens busy.

I spent all that time making that cute little cage for my Meyer pullets, and by the time they can go outside they won't even need it anymore. *Sigh*...

I got my first egg from my Rhode Island Red, Ash today!!!!!!!!!!


It was great since today was just full of pouring rain and flooding. I even moved my chickens inside for fear of their coop getting under water, but the waters went down and I put them back out a few hours later. Here is the creek behind our house, you can see why I was worried.

YAY on the egg!!! But that water sure is angry looking. I have a stream behind my house as well but it's at the bottom of a big hill so it doesn't threaten us. Our only problem is the underground stream that runs directly under our house. Our basement floods something horrible with prolonged rains. The hurricane 2 years ago was an absolute nightmare and if it wasn't for our sump pump and generator (we lost power for a week) the water in the basement would have reached our 1st floor. I understand the destruction of water.

I agree with this post. I want to see pictures of your cuckoo too!

Her comb/wattles are getting a bit bigger but still very flesh colored. But she's looking a bit more mature.

I'm sorry you gotta keep them locked up that long. But hey you have a excuse to get more chicks so you can try that pen you built! and I love his name, so cute! Maybe you can dig up some grass/dirt that hasn't been sprayed. That's something that can help keep them busy. And if you dig a hole big enough you almost got yourself a small pond and if you have a pond you might as well get ducks!

I wish! I'm at my limit for chickens and don't have room for ducks. Otherwise that is a good idea! Lol
