Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

I always think of you and your horrible dog experience when I have a stray dog on my property. Last week we had 2 Weineraimers (spelling is wrong I'm sure) run into our yard from the woods and the owner wasn't far behind. My husband happened to be out there and if the chickens weren't in the run there would have been a few dead chickens. The dogs were running all around the run barking like crazy and all the woman said was,"oh, how nice you have chickens!". Um...yea. Get your dogs on a leash was what my husband wanted to say. We even have a large Private Property sign near the edge of the woods so people know they have left the trail and it's a private home. She was really crazy and started saying how she used to live here and cried when she saw the neighbors took down their barn.
The very next morning my husband was going for a hike in the woods and saw on the way back that the private property sign was all mangled!!! We pass this sign every day and it's always been fine. She must have been so nuts she crumpled the sign...and its made of tin!!!!! I'm so freaked out I hope I never run into her or her dogs. Anyway, that's at least 4 dogs on our property, that I've seen, since having chickens. Can't even count the hawks!
I'm sure with your past experience you are so careful. Its scary!!
BTW, when do White Rocks start to lay? Are they early?
That is crazy about that lady. Some people think they can just walk on others property whether they know them or not. Our chicken coop and garden are pretty far from the road. Right now the city is doing construction on the creek that runs beside our house. There is orange fencing in the way and so far 3 strangers have walked over the construction and went right into our yard to check out what the city is doing. One man did this and saw me in the garden near the coop and walked towards me, saying "oh you have chickens", "how many do you have?" I am so glad we have our dog Maxie, she went crazy and was lunging at him, but could not reach him, but at least scared him enough to stay where he was. Anyway to make a long story short, I was pretty scared for my own safety, he said he was one of our neighbors, but we've watched him he lives a lot further away and not someone looking too trustworthy. I have discovered that there are a lot of stupid people in the world. I was brought up to not walk on someone else's property unless invited and if you need to go to someone's house you go to the front of the house and ring the doorbell. Oops, sorry rant over.

I was wondering the same thing about White Rocks, so far Daisy is not squatting but those wattles are for sure are getting bigger and redder now and the comb too. Does anyone on here have some Meyer White Rocks that are laying eggs?

Nancy, how many of your girls are now laying? Who is left that have not started yet? Oh yeah, I am saving now for one of those cameras. I am going to be on predator patrol! We could hear the hawk screeching this morning, so the girls are staying in longer today, they are waiting at the pop door to the garden, poor things. (We have one of our security cameras pointed towards the garden but it does not have sound and it is not close enough, we have it there more for the basement door for security, I just pointed it towards the garden too)

Our Sal. Faverolle, Daisy. She is super ornery and talkative. She doesn't like to be held at all. This was the one time we managed to wrangle her and keep her from running off.
I had read that they tend to be on the bottom of the pecking order but ours is pretty near the top, just below or Cuckoo Marans.
I didn't notice that either, the poor baby.
Oh I missed this picture. I must have posted around the same time. I can't wait for mine to grow up now. Love those cheeks!!!

LOL, that's my new motto... 'people are idiots!' Some people just don't think and others are just crazy. A big dog on the property is a huge help. A corgi that's been bit a few times by stray dogs (yea, mine) is just a big wuss when other dogs come on the property. Although he's a help with the fox and raccoons!
I think they all might be laying except for the buff brahma. I have seen both my BA's in the nest now. The only 2 I have never seen in a nesting box are my last EE, Bee Bee and my BB. But I think my EE is laying. Gotta get out there and spy on them. Just to busy lately.
My record is 10 good eggs and I have 13 chickens so I guess when I get 13 in one day I'll know for sure!!

That is crazy, I would get a trail cam or something there. The chick run & coop have a lock on it? I hope you don't have anymore issues with crazy lady. I have a idiot behind me who insist on carrying a gun EVERYWHERE he goes and has pointed it at my SIL a couple times. That is why my husband and I decided to pay the $1000+ to put up a privacy fence.
Maybe that is where the name came from. We considered Ester, Edie and then Ellie somehow stuck. Maybe I was reading the name on here and it stuck in the back of my brain. Who knows?

I have a 4 week old Welsummer, but of course no eggs from her, but I would love to hear the answers too! Of my two mature EE's that I got in February, they both laid green eggs. I have 2 more 4 week old ones and they both have the puffy cheeks and green legs. One of the older ones was more friendly then the other, but the one older one I have left now squats for me and is not as scared as she used to be. One of the baby ones is super friendly too and the other is a little more weary of us. ha ha, we did the same, then kept remembering they were outside. Good to hear about Moe. Now I know what to do if one of mine gets broody. Yay for your BA! So Oreo our lead chicken, who also was the one bitten by the dog apparently went to battle with a hawk today. All of my chickens both yesterday and today kept going into the run and coop even though they were released to go into the garden. I went to see what was up today because they had put themselves up again. I saw a lot of feathers at the edge of the garden and Oreo looked like she could be missing some feathers, not bad but she did not look like the other BR, Pepper. We still were not sure what happened. So today, we went out to let the little chicks run in their separate garden area. We sit with them since they are still too small to be alone. Good thing we were there. A huge hawk flew right over us. Daisy the White Rock screamed and all the big chickens and little chicks ran into their areas of the coop. Needless to say all the chickens will be in the coop and run unless I am standing watch in the garden. Poor Oreo, first a dog and now a hawk, but I think she got the best of the hawk because she seemed fine. She didn't lay an egg today though, so maybe it scared her a lot. The big girls will walk in the garden now, if I am with them, but Daisy the 17 week old won't even come out of the coop now, she is still so scared. Raising chickens can be so frustrating, but I am glad no one got killed or injured.
I'm sorry, poor Oreo can't catch a break. How is she doing today? One of the first times we let the silkies out after about 45 mins I looked up and there was at least 20 turkey vultures circling above.

My first Brahma "home breed" success.
She's so pretty!

oh, jeeze. I didn't even think of her doing something to my girls! There is lock human can open but not raccoons and other 4 footed creatures. Something to think about. I'm just hoping she was visiting for the day and won't be back as she said she moved away. We have a cam in the coop and in the run but it doesn't record, it's just for live viewing. It's pretty pricey to have the recordings done.
If I see her again I will certainly go looking for her car so I at least get her plate and report her.

Here are the pictures that I took yesterday of the girls. (sorry the quality is bad. The lighting in the coop is terrible when it comes to pictures. I'll be getting some better pictures tomorrow or Wednesday when I let them out to free range.)

I absolutely love her expression in this one.
