Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

Is that Ellie in that pic? I think that's is what my EE is gonna look like. I'm gonna take pics this weekend (they will be 4 weeks) and let me know if she looks like yours did.

Yup that's Ellie. I'll post some pictures of Ellie when she was 4 weeks to help you compare the coloring between her and your EE. :)

Amber is doing great. Thanks for asking. She has lost most of her scabs and has tail feathers that are a couple inches long. Did I tell you about the puncture wound we found? I can't remember what I put on here. lol. If not... it's like she has a sunburn and is shedding her top layer of skin all over her body. I think it's the spray we've been putting on her. We were helping her shed this skin the other day and we found a puncture would about the size of a nickle and a couple inches deep that we didn't initially find. It's all scabbed up inside but I think she's going to have a permanent hole there. I can't believe she survived! We found a couple other minor wounds but nothing like that.

Our older girls are much more tolerant of newcomers now after seeing 3-4 groups of them. It's the younger girls that have to show them who's boss now.

We found an egg yesterday in the middle of the coop. It was our BR who has laid faithfully in the nest box since her first egg almost 2 months ago! I don't know why she suddenly laid it on the floor. Strange! I do hope it's your other EE though! I got my hopes up that it was one of our middle flock, but I checked and the only one ready to lay is the D'Uccle and it was way to big for her. Once I compared it to our BR egg it was the same size/shape/color except for a few spots on it, but she's laid those kind before.
Glad to hear about Amber. Oreo had a quarter sized hole that seemed to heal up okay. I'm sure they'll be a scar, but the feathers cover it up. I hope Amber doesn't get mean like Oreo after her ordeal. I guess it proves how tough she is. I feel so sorry for the other chickens.

I wish my older girls were more tolerant, but it is the two lowest in the pecking order that enjoy chasing the little ones, Big Mama the BO and Daisy the White Rock. So much for Daisy being accepted into either flock now, maybe once the others get bigger.
If it's a different shade then doesn't it have to be your other EE? Thought they laid the same color..

Have you ever seen any of the wrong turn movies? Every time I see that movie I think of the guy behind us. He is a straight redneck/hillbillies/hermit. Plus he sells drugs so we get some very shady people driving by our house all hours of the day/night. Lol I thought it was funny! The next month or so they were only allowed out if my husband or I could stand out there and watch them but after that one time we never had a problem again. My husband was out there with me the day they were circling and the 2 or 3 mins it took to gather up the chicks the vultures were dropping even lower. When the chickens are out they hang out under the deck most of the time ex if its raining then they stand in the middle of the yard ( I'm such a proud momma

I didn't know about the new wound you found. I'm glad she is doing better, hopefully it won't be that big of a hole. My polish are pretty brave, they both went up and tried to peck at one of my Roos. I can't wait to get the other 2 I have coming in sept. They are prob my fav breed now, they have been a lot of fun.. Did you ever find out if your splash is a roo?
I have not seen those movies. Sound pretty funny though. We have a young neighbor beside us that has been in lots of trouble with the police and we are always watching out for, his dad shot at a police officer and went to federal prison, so we're not too trustworthy with the whole family. Our neighborhood is slowly improving but we still have those few trouble makers that we wish would leave.

Is anyone getting chicks this week? or next?

I told my husband last night when we move in a couple years I want to move where we won't have people living near us and the whole property will be fenced in and if someone gets near the fence I'm sending Nugget my rooster after them.

I don't think the splash is a roo. They are old enough i think it should be obvious by now.

Good cause she is so pretty, I'd hate to see you have to get rid of her.

So cute! Love your hen. So happy that I ended up getting some light brahmas in my last shipment. Congrats on the home bred. I bet that is a fun experience!
Your girls are so pretty! I like Annie, she has a sweet face and Sunni's expression is great, lol.
They grow up so fast! Cute :) I need to post some photos of my 3 week babies.
My bet would be that your last EE is laying out in the run. I'm not sure how you know for sure though unless you get2 in the same day
I'm sorry your luck has been so bad. Mine hasn't been so great lately either. Lost ALL 20 of my babies to something and had quite a few losses in my last shipment. I'm hoping that both of our lucks improve!

So how many straight frizzles did you end up with? I think mine is a male his comb grew over night it seems like. How are both shipments of babies? We haven't seen pics in awhile

That would be great

Hmmm, the laying as early as 12 weeks thing makes me leery about those Austra Whites...

Thanks for the responses about the Easter-eggers, by the way. I'm not sure I like the odds of green or blue eggs with their Easter-eggers. I'm thinking if I order next year, I'll go with one each of the Black Copper Marans, Welsummer, Silver Gray Dorking, and maybe one other in case the Dorkings are a no-go again.

I ended up with 1 frizzle and I am with you thinking one is male. He has a red comb and its gotten big, the other two still just have small, light colored combs.

After all of the initial deaths in my last shipment, they are all doing well. I will take photos and post of my 3 week old chicks tomorrow.

Oh, I didn't notice that part, yeah that sounds way too early for a chicken to lay an egg. I don't mind waiting the usual time myself. Plus I heard the earlier they lay the earlier they stop laying and also early layers could have more complications.

Speaking on something similar. I wanted to look into getting meat birds in the future. I do not want the rabid growing cornish x chickens. What other breeds are good as meat birds that grow more the natural way? Has anyone on here gotten other types of meat birds that have turned out good too?
