Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

my 3 week old rooster from Myers looks like they got it right look at his crown growing And my curious dog
Is that a Cuckoo Marans or Barred Rock? Legs look yellow so I'm guessing BR but can't tell. I'm chick sitting for a neighbor while they're away and they have a CM roo that's 3 weeks old and the comb isn't nearly as big as yours. But you can tell from his size and how thick his legs are, and even how much white he has on him that he's a male.

Update: Wow! $49! Not worth that. I could get a dozen legbar hatching eggs for that!
Maybe they'll come down in price after a few years? The only good thing is you will def. get a pullet if that's what's ordered because you can tell the diff between male/female.
But I would love to get Cream Legbar eggs if I ever get a good broody. That would be fun.

Chicken math is horrible stuff!
I have 4-8 eggs ready to hatch this friday, just put an order in at a local feed store for 12 chicks to pick up on friday, and I'm getting at least 2 dozen eggs from local people on friday to put in the bator! I only have room for 3-4 more chickens. Oy!

I'm getting 4 EE's, 4 white frizzle bantam cochins, 2 D'Anvers, and 2 SLW chicks from the feed store. Most of these will be sold locally but we may keep 1. The eggs I'm getting are 12 silkies and then a mix of bantam cochins, Iowa Blues, Marans, and possible a Lakenvelder and Austra White.

I really need to get on it and build a grow out coop.
Chicken math, smack my head. My friends think I'm nuts getting more. I think I have my new coop picked out. If it ever stops snowing I'll go take a look at it. THEN I'm cut off

NO more coops. Just more chicks

April 21 is when I'm supposed to get mine!!!
I can't wait to see what hatches for you on friday. Have you candled them again? Is everything going well?

The warm weather is on it's way here, the girls are laying a ton of eggs. Seems they are ready for Spring as much as I am!!
More snow tonight - 3-5 inches then the 40's and 50's are on the way for a few days!!!! I'm so excited. I'm curious to see if the girls lay more. I only got 4 today and typically getting 5-6 daily. But it was stinkin' cold today so I don't blame them :) My EE Izzy still hasn't laid since Oct. so still have my fingers crossed.

We are only allowed 8 chickens but will probably end up with 10-11 but 3-4 of those will be bantam so they only count for half a chicken, right? ;)
Absolutely!! Are your neighbors OK with the chickens? We aren't really social with ours and don't see them much so they've never said anything. I have an acre but the way we are situated on the lot the other 2 houses can't really see our backyard. But I'm sure they hear them! We don't have a limit on the # we can have and I'm not about to call the township and ask

I got a Super Extra Large Jumbo Egg today from Ginger the Golden Buff! That's it beside a regular large egg from one of my leghorns or Andulasions. It was 3.7 ounces!! About 105 grams!! I think this is our record here. I wonder how many yolks are inside? All the family needs to see it first, then I'll crack it open to see what's inside.

Oooh, I look forward to seeing the coop you have in mind. I'd really like to have a new coop here one day. My scrap made coop works well, but I am so jealous of all those pretty coops out there.

I'm glad your getting more chicks, you got caught up with that chick fever didn't you?
More snow? Really? We'll be in the 70's tomorrow and in the 60's today. We have snow clumps here and there, but that's it.

Hopefully you'll get more eggs soon once your weather warms up. We gave our closest neighbors some eggs. Everyone is pretty far away from our coop, but they are the closest, so they probably here the noisy egg layers when they start up. They sure are noisier then I imagined before getting chickens. The neighbors were really happy to receive the eggs, so hopefully they won't complain.

I put the eggs into lockdown last night. There are 4 that have a chick in them, 1 that is too dark to tell, and 1 that has something in it but I'm thinking it's not alive but DD won't let me through it out. I also left 4 clears in there just to give the incubator more mass. Now they just have to make it out of their shell! I'm having a hard time getting the humidity high enough. It's stuck at 52%. I have 5 open jars of water plus a shallow bowl full and 2 sponges. I hope it's enough.

We don't really talk to our neighbors. . We are really close (in distance) to them but there are so many barking dogs around us that I don't think they'd even hear the chickens most times. I think they won't complain about my chickens so that I won't complain about their dogs and I don't complain about their dogs so they won't complain about my chickens. lol. So far it's working out. We've lived here a year and no one has said anything. The only thing was the rear neighbor when we first moved in saw us carrying a chicken and asked about it. He thought it was cool. But he's only 1 of about 4-5 people that live in that house.

We have had wonderful weather the last couple days. It even got to 68! I let the girls out for awhile and they were so happy to have grass to peck at again.

Oh... did I post the pic of our new puppy on this thread? I can't remember. Oh well he's so cute you can see him again if I did.

Did everyone get the email that Meyer has a $1.99 (25min) special on rainbow pullet pack and BR? So tempting! I could sell them for double what I buy them for here. And of course, if I'm placing an order I could add some bantam EE and maybe an olive egger. Since I'm already paying shipping. ;)
I texted DH. We'll see what he says. He's usually my voice of reason. lol

I tried to order the rainbow pullet pack. DH said as long as I'm making money on it to go ahead. :)
Unfortunately it seems something is wrong with their system. The sale price won't show at the end of checkout. It does on the barred rocks, but not the rainbow pack. I emailed them. I tried calling but they were already closed. Hopefully it works out tomorrow.

Here's what I may get...

My DH will cut a hole on the far end in the wire and build a little hardware cloth tunnel for them to walk through right into our existing run. It matches
the coop we already have (except for attached run) and since we know the one we have is made well then this one should be too. BTW, the coop model is actually called 'The Nancy' so I think
it's meant to be!
Honestly I love homemade coops so much but my DH doesn't want the coop to detract from the property and he can't build a coop that would look so finished so
we have to buy. Me? I want the biggest homemade coop imaginable

LOL we always want what we don't have :)

Keep us posted on hatching the chicks. You said this was your first time but you sound like a pro. How do you know what to do? Just reading about how to do it or is someone
teaching you?

His name is Barley. We have a trend of naming our pugs 'B' names. We took awhile to name him but that finally fit.

I actually got the email from Meyer. Normally I don't check their website. That's just too tempting! lol
I read A LOT about it. I'm hoping our next hatch will have better results though since they won't be shipped eggs.
