Is that a Cuckoo Marans or Barred Rock? Legs look yellow so I'm guessing BR but can't tell. I'm chick sitting for a neighbor while they're away and they have a CM roo that's 3 weeks old and the comb isn't nearly as big as yours. But you can tell from his size and how thick his legs are, and even how much white he has on him that he's a male.
Maybe they'll come down in price after a few years? The only good thing is you will def. get a pullet if that's what's ordered because you can tell the diff between male/female.Update: Wow! $49! Not worth that. I could get a dozen legbar hatching eggs for that!
But I would love to get Cream Legbar eggs if I ever get a good broody. That would be fun.
Chicken math, smack my head. My friends think I'm nuts getting more. I think I have my new coop picked out. If it ever stops snowing I'll go take a look at it. THEN I'm cut offChicken math is horrible stuff!
I have 4-8 eggs ready to hatch this friday, just put an order in at a local feed store for 12 chicks to pick up on friday, and I'm getting at least 2 dozen eggs from local people on friday to put in the bator! I only have room for 3-4 more chickens. Oy!
I'm getting 4 EE's, 4 white frizzle bantam cochins, 2 D'Anvers, and 2 SLW chicks from the feed store. Most of these will be sold locally but we may keep 1. The eggs I'm getting are 12 silkies and then a mix of bantam cochins, Iowa Blues, Marans, and possible a Lakenvelder and Austra White.
I really need to get on it and build a grow out coop.

I can't wait to see what hatches for you on friday. Have you candled them again? Is everything going well?
More snow tonight - 3-5 inches then the 40's and 50's are on the way for a few days!!!! I'm so excited. I'm curious to see if the girls lay more. I only got 4 today and typically getting 5-6 daily. But it was stinkin' cold today so I don't blame themThe warm weather is on it's way here, the girls are laying a ton of eggs. Seems they are ready for Spring as much as I am!!

Absolutely!! Are your neighbors OK with the chickens? We aren't really social with ours and don't see them much so they've never said anything. I have an acre but the way we are situated on the lot the other 2 houses can't really see our backyard. But I'm sure they hear them! We don't have a limit on the # we can have and I'm not about to call the township and askWe are only allowed 8 chickens but will probably end up with 10-11 but 3-4 of those will be bantam so they only count for half a chicken, right?![]()
