Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

Somehow I missed this picture before, that is a great idea, I just may steal it in the future! Mostly wire and a couple boards? I can handle that.

Hey, we made a special brooder for our 2nd batch then switched to a huge cardboard box for our last 16 in our 3rd order. Whatever works! 

Of course we want to see your new chicks too. They'll be sisters to your Meyer's chicks, so they're still in the family! 

I do have the 2 small dog carriers that to use as broody cages, but I wanted Daisy to have more room to move around since she needs to be in jail for a week, plus there was room for a roost too. She laid an egg on the floor of the cage today, so I guess she is not too stressed. 

Oh wow, they are adorable! I can't wait to see the different colored feathers on all of them. I didn't even realize they had so many colors in Orpingtons. I have a Buff and she is huge and beautiful.

My husband is a materials hoarder too. I used to complain about it but not anymore since it has saved us so much with building things for the chickens. He has also gotten a variety of tools and equipment (toys) that have come in great use lately. I like to encourage some of this hoarding now and I also encourage the requirement of tools that would be useful for building stuff since a lot of this stuff will be for my projects too!

All of you with these Olive Eggers, I can't wait to see what kind of eggs you get in 20 or so weeks!

I got a Barred Rock in my first order and a Golden Sex Link (Production Red) in my 3rd order for Meal Makers. I give away a lot of eggs! So they are serving their purpose well!

What kind are all of these? Congrats, they are cute!

The top pic is RIR. The second pics I have 3 salmon faverolles, 3 buff Orpington, 1 silver laced polish, and 3 Easter eggers. They are getting big so fast! Seems like the mixed group is more friendly than the RIR group. That may just be the difference in the breeds though. I've got ducks and more chicks coming from Murray next week! And guineas from cackle in June. I've never ordered from a hatchery so I thought I'd try a few. Been pretty happy with Meyer so far though.

Lynn, it was fairly simple to put up, it took me the better part of a day to do it but I'm not that skilled with measuring and cutting. Its just the two 2x4s anchored to the wall beams with hardware cloth and chicken wire. It would go faster with an extra set of hands. Working with that cloth is brutal to your hands. A few screws with washers work great to stabilize everything before you go too crazy with the staple gun. I did use an L bracket on the bottom 2x4 so I didn't put any screws in the floor; I have roof coat as waterproofing on my floor.

The roosts were previously installed so I had to work around them but it turned out okay. The OSB board was a scrap from the barn. I thought if I wanted to open up the brooder side to the big chicken side, I could just cut a pop-hole out in the OSB.

So I decided the egg business is so good now that I put in an order for 100 more layers. My husband is going to build a new coop for all the new layers!!! We decided to stick with all leghorns, RIR's and RSL chicks!! So excited!!!

Olive didn't make it. Poor girl. Every day I was ready to move her back outside she took a turn for the worse. She kept getting better and yesterday when I checked on her before bed, she was laboring to breathe and she just smelled bad. I've determined her crop was impacted further down her system than could be fixed by oil and massage and grit. I guess surgery would have been the only fix. I have yet to find a vet that will even give advice on a chicken let alone administer to one. I feel like I have been teaching them! Anyway, while it is sad, I've decided the only way passed this is to add a light brahma to my May order and call her Olive.

Awww, sorry about Olive. You did everything for her you could. These things just happen sometimes.
