Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

well it does look like a rooster but fret not having a rooster can save the life's of your girls as they will sound the "alarm" and go head first into a predator attack i once saw two of my grandma's roosters try to fend off a 80lb dog. Not to mention they are the prettier side of the breed and are most likely to win at shows. Plus you get a life time supply of that breed and lovely tail feathers at the end of the year

I agree, looking like a roo. I'm glad you can have them. They add a whole other dimension to the flock. It's fun to watch them lure the girls with a treat, woo them with a dance, and they will definitely defend their flock. I hope we get land soon so we can keep our little maran rooster chick. :)

The benefit I really like is that the roo will calm pecking between the girls. Could put an alpha hen in her place. The risky part is babies whenever you want! LOL!

On that note, I hope all three of my babies are not boys. I'll have to get some good pics in the morning. Each one shows a sign of some kind...one has a slightly larger comb, one has been slower to feather, and one...well, I just thought he'd be a roo.

How are your little ones today?
I ordered 6 April 7th.

3 EE's
2 BLRW
1 Welsummer

They all looked awful when they arrived... Thursday afternoon.
wobbley and weak.
The welsummer looked the worse off when they arrived, but she put up a good fight.
We lost 2 of the 6- a splash BLRW the prettiest chick, and the fluffiest EE.

The welsummer pulled through. The 2 EE's we have left- one has a straight comb with a fluffy face, one is clean faced with a pea comb. The BLRW left is very dark.. might be black laced?

Here is a pic of my Meyer black laced red wyandotte.

Sorry about the losses! Glad the rest are pulling through!! Can't wait to see photos!!

Here are my 12 day old Meyer 'Marans mix" and Olive eggers.
Pictures are really hard to take, sorry. Hopefully you can tell me what I have.
I am pretty sure there is at least one roo. I am sooooo bummed. I think out of the whole batch I have at least three roos. I can't believe I waited, and paid for pullets...blah.
Anyway.
What kind of Marans do you think these are?
#1 Black copper?

#2 Black copper?

#3 black copper? not much of a mix huh?

These are the olive eggers, I think. I don't know what they are if they aren't OE

Thoughts? Feedback? Anyone else have Meyer chicks looking like these OE?

At two weeks, it almost impossible to say that there a roosters in your pullets order. Meyer is very good at sexing, I've only ended up with 2 oops Roos in over 200 pullets ordered. It would also be highly unlikely to end up with that % of roosters in such a small pullet order. It's hard to tell without seeing their combs, but here are my guesses. #1 BCM #2 black olive Egger #3 BCM #4 cuckoo Marans #5 blue olive Egger #6 blue olive Egger
