Use the USPS website. Make sure your local PO holds them at the office for you to pick then up. This is the best chance you have of keeping them from getting scrambled.

Falling behind on posts after my 8 hour drive today!

I'm impressed hard decisions were made. We have nursed 2 chickens back to health after attacks. I agree you get attached after nursing them. One of them we could take or leave but after nursing it my DD is attached to it now. We have also tried nursing numerous chicks with mixed results. I'm glad I haven't had to make the hard decision. One came close enough that we were seriously discussing it but she finally pulled through.

The last 4 chicks we have to sell right now are going to homes. 2 went today and our real estate agent is buying the other 2 this week.
We are putting our house on the market at the end of the week and putting an offer on a house w/ 10 acres this wed. I hope we get it! A friend of a friend down the street from us put their house on the market yesterday and received 3 offers by today! If we sell ours that quick but don't get the one we want we'll be screwed! We have nowhere to go with 3 dogs, a cat, and many chickens. lol

I know there's posts I wanted to reply to that I'm forgetting now. I get so wrapped into reading the posts I forget to press the "multi" button. lol

Thanks Lynn! I'm hoping you are right. The other two I'm almost positive are boys. I hope the middle one is a girl.
Are you going to keep them, is they're roos?
Forgot to post these here yesterday! Here are my youngest Meyer birds at 11 months old. :) I also added some thoughts on their personalities for anyone that's interested in these breeds. Sorry in advance for such a long post! Huka the Silver Lakenvelder. She started out shy, but has come around now. She's still a bit flighty, but is okay as long as you don't move too fast. She was the last to start laying of these girls and only lays 4 times a week or so. Ihi the Golden Campine. This bird is always moving! She's not terribly flighty, but like Huka, she does get a bit jumpy if you move too fast. She's pretty friendly, though, and comes over to talk to me all the time. Sh lays about as much as Huka as well, maybe a bit more. Marama the Egyptian Fayoumi. She is so sassy! She's not a lap bird and doesn't like to be picked up, but isn't really all that shy and lets me pet her if she comes over. She also lays only 4 times a week or so. She's also the smallest of the lot of them, even smaller than Po the bantam Cochin rooster! Rangi the Ancona. Rangi, Rangi, Rangi. She's the most personable of them all. She's a bit unpredictable sometimes and you never know when you're going to end up with Rangi on your shoulder. She is a sweetie, though, and lets me pet her or pick her up whenever. Frostbite got her bad this winter, although it was likely as a result of my coop flooding right before we got all that frigid weather! She lays probably 5 or 6 times a week. Roha the Exchequer Leghorn. This bird is a sweetheart and a ham for attention! She runs over whenever she sees me and just basks in any attention I give her! She lays 4 eggs a week or so. Whiri the Light Brown Leghorn. I can't get anywhere near this bird without her panicking. She's not friendly in any way. She is, however, just the most gorgeous little hen I have! She lays about 5 or 6 eggs a week. Po the black Cochin bantam (from Meyer's Black Frizzle Cochin bantams). I have never liked roosters, but Mr. Po has changed my attitude toward them. He is gentle with his girls and respectful to me. I see him keep the peace by breaking up fights between the girls, and plus he's always very alert to possible predators such as birds flying over. Such a good boy!
my lblh same way Such beautiful birds! I need to update pics on all my girls. I like how you described each one too. Nice flock! :thumbsup Nancy- How are your ones with lost feathers and the one with the vent issue?

OK slight dilemma....I went out to the coop today to check on my broody (I was just about to dip her in some water to break her out of it) when I noticed this! I think she has two more eggs under her so I quickly secured the next box with a zip up chicken tractor. I'm contemplating moving the new chick inside with my Meyer chicks so that they grow up together or leave it with the mother?? I'm going to wait a couple of days to see if the other eggs hatch and decide what do to...any suggestions? :jumpy
she should accept them

It sounds like most people feel that rather than take the chick away from its mother, you should add your Meyers babies to her brood. She might raise them as her own and protect them from the older hens. That would be great in the long run!

Good luck with both houses!!! Very exciting and nerve-wracking time. Selling or buying a house with contingencies doesn't always make you the best candidate, but, sometimes you have to make your sale contingent on a place to move to. If a buyer wants your home, they may be willing and able to wait for it. Talk to your realtor about how best you can protect yourself!

Wow, how exciting!!! That's great that you guys are so close to selling and buying another home. I hope that you can get the 10 acres, that would be awesome. I also wish you the best with being able to stay in your current house until the new one is ready. That would be a big hassle to have to move twice especially with animals. I hope that it all works out the best for you.

It's great to have a partner in crime! I was just out planning our coop and run placement with my husband. He's starting to get excited about it. We will start Easter Sunday. I hope we'll be forgiving working that day! He only has Sundays off from work and I want to get the coop set up as soon as possible!

I have a question about placement. Our coop has a vent on the back of the coop but the only windows are on the front. We are planning on the windows facing East to get mostly morning sun. There is a large tree that will shade the coop from afternoon heat in the summer but still allow sun in the winter. Does that sound good or do I want the windows facing south for both morning and afternoon sun? Part of the 14x24 ft. run will have a roof for additional shade and to limit snow accumulation in the run. Any opinions on our plan?
It sounds like a good plan so far to me. Make sure they have plenty of ventilation too. They'll have shade and sun, so I think you've figured it out. One thing I have learned is not to over think everything and worry too much. Chickens will pretty be happy anywhere as long as you have the key stuff available. Space per bird, shade, sunshine, ventilation, outside time in a run or free ranging too. Food, water, predator proof home, roosts, nest boxes, etc...

Have you tried calling Meyer's if you did not get the tracking number yet? I've never ordered hatching eggs from them, only chicks.

I honestly don't know what I'll do with roos. I was flirting with the idea of keeping one. I guess it really depends on how annoying the crowing is and how the neighbors feel about it. I doubt I'd keep two roos even if they got along because I don't have enough girls for that. I would probably rehome him or possibly process him. That depends.
How many chickens do you have now? How many are you allowed or do you want? Right now we do not have a rooster but I have been flirting with the idea of having one too, but we probably won't since not sure if the neighbors would like the crowing.

I really like your dilemma, that is so neat! I wish that would happen to me, but with no rooster that would never happen here. I'd love to see pics of how you secured her in the chicken tractor. I'd move your other ones in with her if I were you. She is the best for the chicks, as long as she accepts them and seems like a good mom to all of them. Under a close watchful eye of course. That is just the cutest picture. How is mama hen doing today? and her baby?

Cheeperchick, I would agree with everyone else about fostering the Meyer brood with the broody, she would overjoyed to have 5 more babies.
The only case I wouldnt do this is if she is not a competant momma. I did have a circumstance last year where I had to pull the last remaining chick from a broody because she had accidently killed the other 2 chicks from the clutch. That was the only time I had ever pulled chicks though, and I've had 5 clutches with broodies.

@LynnEBC
I have three girls right now. I do think a roo would be good for keeping my Dellie under control, but I think boys might be destined for the freezer. Ahh, I can't believe I even said it. My hubby isn't interested in a new alarm clock!
