That's a great assortment!! I have some meyer Cochins ( a blue, splash, and partridge.) at 12 weeks old they are shaping up to be beautiful fluffy and friendly girls. Your going to love them! Keep us updated.

I posted this in a welsummer thread but haven't gotten much back... So I'll try again here!

This is my first year having Welsummers, I got two pullet day old chicks on Monday April 21st. I am beginning to wonder about one of them bc she is feathering much slower than the rest. Here are some pics of her beside her welsummer sister

She seems to act fine, she's very active and scratches around more than the others. Plus she is always the first to run up to me to see if I brought anything yummy. She just barely has any feathers on her wings and no tail feathers yet and is smaller than the rest (I will say the other Welsummer is the biggest of the week olds). Should I be concerned? I have heard sometimes Roos feather out slower so I am hoping it's not that...

as long as it's eating and acting normal it's most likey a rooster or just a slowing growing hen (i have had both) but only time will tell also chicks on a lower pecking order tend to be a bit smaller and i never heard of pullets being so young.

hope you didn't pay to much.

I got them from Meyer as sexed chicks, supposedly all female.... guess time will tell!

As my grams always said "sexing isn't final until someone's stats crowing" And sexing at that young is only 90% acuterate
barnie.gif
i can't believe they are calling those pullet size
ep.gif
The didn't call them pullets, I just bought as "day old chicks" that were sexed as females. I just thought pullet meant female that hadn't laid an egg yet so I that's how I typed it out, sorry!

The people that I 'chicken sit' for when they go away had all 25 chickens killed a few days ago by a fox! Someone must have let the run door open and when they got home at night there were dead chickens everywhere! So sad. By morning all carcasses were gone. They were only about 3 months old.
Not my first but I think it never gets old to open that box and see the baby's!
So true, always fun and nerve racking until you see they are all okay.

I'm really getting excited... my babies ship out on the 12th of May. I must be patient, I must be patient, repeat after me I must be patient....

Yay, Congrats to you!!!!!...and did any one tell you that you "must be patient"

Wow, what's that, around 25? Do you already have chickens? That's great, I love all your choices!! You're an awesome aunt too to order for your niece too!

Sometimes I go on the Meyer website and put in a wish list of 15 chickens just to see when it could arrive... this time it was August! Sigh... if only I had 10 more acres

Gotta be careful not to hit that order button

Don't tempt me, that's something fun to do though. I look at the breeds but have never placed them in the shopping cart. My family already thinks I am crazy, better not let them catch me doing that.

Now I'm curious, I'm going to check and see what bantam breeds are available.

I had what I thought was one Welsummer and one Light Brown Leghorn in my last order. (I had ordered one of each so it made sense) One was just like that and feathered in slowly, I thought maybe they sent me a bantam Welsummer by mistake. Turns out they both were light brown leghorns and both were girls. We named the tiny one Mini, now Mini is just as big as Izzie the other leghorn. So hens can start out slow feathering and small too but eventually they'll catch up. In my case anyway.

I still want a Welsummer!
