I like the quality of chicks that I get from Meyers. If there was someone local near me, I might take that option so the chicks would not be stressed from shipping. I still would probably use Meyers for their great selection though. The local ones I have seen might have some heritage RIR's which would be great but I like my flock to be a variety. I would not fit in on one of the breeder threads since I like multiple breeds and a variety of egg colors. They'd laugh at me for sure. I'm sorry that someone spoiled your excitement on the other thread. We understand here since we get just as excited.
I now have 3 garden boxes built, my garden was demolished in the construction, so we are rebuilding everything. I have started on my pallet compost bins too. I just love pallets! I need more now! The tomatoes, cucumbers and strawberry plants are in the ground. I am starting other veggies from seeds. I love gardening, so much fun! We have a new way of blocking the chickens eating the veggies too, I'll take pics soon too.
I wish my renter took care of my house like that....
The house may not be spotless...I do have a small human, but there aren't bugs, the utilities have never been shut off, the rent is paid in full & on time every month, and the police are never here. I have good relationships with my neighbors, in fact I have one of my neighbor's keys since he travels a lot. I put in flower beds and the back garden at my own expense. I take care of minor upkeep around the house & tell him about issues I see that will need attention WAY ahead of time. This winter was the worst we have ever seen & because I knew how to deal with the pipes, there was only 1.5 days that they froze, but only in 1 section of the house - none burst. I did call to let him know about the frozen pipes & kept him updated on the thaw. Out of the 4 houses he owns for rentals, mine was the only one that didn't have burst pipes. Because of that & other things, he gave me 1/2 off the rent at my 1 yr anniversary month this year.I wish my renter took care of my house like that....

And happy for you that you could get a house. My daughter lives in an apartment and I stayed with her for 2 weeks when my Grandson was born 2 years ago and I nearly went stir crazy!!
The key is to have realistic expectations. You can't expect to have everything fixed right that second. Some things are priority, some are urgent, some are in the near future... It sounds like you are a great landlord!
Handsome fellas! Great idea with the busy jar!Ok so I moved the little boys (8 weeks old) out of their cage. They've been in the run with the girls for several weeks. The girls don't like it too much, but the boys seem to like to hide in the dust bath bin.
I also made the girls a new toy from an old peanut butter jar. Saw it here somewhere. The pellets fall out of the holes as they knock it around. I'm hoping it keeps them distracted from the new company.

We get ours free through one of the vendors for our business, but there are a lot of places I heard that give them away, at least here in NC. Probably if you googled where to find free pallets, maybe you'd find one?
