So we kept the hens inside today since we are having company over the weekend and we wanted the chicken poop cleaned up before they came too, plus I wanted to put all the mulch back where it belonged. Such messy chickens!
Anyway, Cuckoo, our Cuckoo Maran decided to punish me and is now broody again! I need to go and move her to the broody cage tonight. Why can't they wait to go broody until I am ready?
I hung a mesh bird feeder that was 1/4 inch hardware cloth in run and put boss in it maybe scratch will work to they emptied it in 48 hrs
I hope I get a good hatch from my eggs

Well, I've spent most of the day working on my brooder! Side windows are done & I cut the connection between the 2 tubs. I will have it finished this weekend, unless something unexpected comes up! WOOHOO!!! My plan for connecting them didn't work out, but I figured out an alternative that will work even better.
I will update the DIY posting on my blog & I will post pics here for my Meyer's "family"
I'm very excited! It can be un-zip tied & stored very easily; it has cat proof lids & side windows that the small human can see in! It's been a lot of work, but I wanted to built it to last!
I had the sweetest moment with my Meyer babies today! I let the babies run around outside the brooder while I was sitting with them, and they were scratching and pecking and having a heck of a time! They would take naps every few minutes while they were out, but they would all climb up onto my lap for their naps and sleep in my arms, all cuddled up and warm.
Well, it was getting late and I had to get the big girls in for the night, so I put them all back in the brooder and took a minute to check my phone before heading out. The babies freaked! They did NOT want to be in the brooder at all! It was getting dark, so I tried to settle them down by tucking them under the EcoGlow, but that didn't do it, either! And with the fence away from the brooder, the babies kept hopping out!
So, getting frustrated, I put my hands out to block the babies from flying, and they did something that totally surprised me! They all huddled underneath my hands like they would under a broody hen's wings! They were even poking their little heads out between my fingers every once in a while. They settled right down! Augh, I'm so in love with these babies!! Unfortunately, I couldn't sit there all night, so with them settled, I convinced them that they needed to sleep under the EcoGlow after all.

Just an FYI - there is someone in the Raising Chicks section who has just ordered from Meyers and has now heard some bad things & is having some second thoughts. I posted a reply to her & gave her the direct link to here. She lost her flock to an animal attack & these are replacements. I hope she comes into our happy thread to check us out, but if anyone has a second to go say hi to her in the other section...she needs some support I think.
Almost 15 weeks old and I'm loving the look of my Barred rock roo!!! My RIR is looking ok but has a surprisingly narrow body. Almost looking like a game foul... But still pretty just not sure I want to breed him.
