Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

It's hard to tell the narrowness of his body from a pics, but he's beautiful! Thanks for sharing!

Also I have a BRLW that I ordered as a male but I have been back and forth on the sex. It's comb and wattles developed fast but the feathers don't scream rooster. Does anyone else have pictures of there BRLW roosters? This one is almost 15 weeks old.

He's not as long in the torso as your other roo, maybe not as tall. As far as breeding - I'm not versed well enough in the different breed standards of chickens to know. When I raised parrots, personality and the quality of the plumage played a huge part in my decision to breed an animal or not. I could overlook a few small structural flaws if there were pluses in other areas. Just my thoughts.

Thank you! I am not breeding so much for type but production. So what I've been told is a good layer should have a wider body. But with that in mind everyone likes a pretty bird and his colors are looking good. The barred rock is my best he is missing type but still he is AWSOME to look at! Good job Meyer!

If he were the hen, I would be more worried about the wider body. In the male, I could overlook a little since he's so beautiful & he appears to have a great temperament. At least once & see what you get.

I had the sweetest moment with my Meyer babies today!

I let the babies run around outside the brooder while I was sitting with them, and they were scratching and pecking and having a heck of a time! They would take naps every few minutes while they were out, but they would all climb up onto my lap for their naps and sleep in my arms, all cuddled up and warm.

Well, it was getting late and I had to get the big girls in for the night, so I put them all back in the brooder and took a minute to check my phone before heading out. The babies freaked! They did NOT want to be in the brooder at all! It was getting dark, so I tried to settle them down by tucking them under the EcoGlow, but that didn't do it, either! And with the fence away from the brooder, the babies kept hopping out!

So, getting frustrated, I put my hands out to block the babies from flying, and they did something that totally surprised me! They all huddled underneath my hands like they would under a broody hen's wings!

They were even poking their little heads out between my fingers every once in a while. They settled right down!

Augh, I'm so in love with these babies!! Unfortunately, I couldn't sit there all night, so with them settled, I convinced them that they needed to sleep under the EcoGlow after all.

Real breeders may have better advice, but that's my 2 cents. I'd love to see pics of babies if/when they arrive! Your Meyer's chickens are gorgeous! I can't wait for my chicks to hatch...then to make the drive there. Only 1 month & 3 weeks!

I've been a busy woman today! I FINALLY got my garden finished... It's been a long ordeal since I had shoulder surgery 5 weeks ago, but I managed to have enough strength to use a shovel, plant seeds, plant my plants, and get it done! Of course I had to take plenty of breaks and I'm now icing down my shoulder...

I've got the perennial flower area, that I desperately need to go get the huge weeds/baby trees out of - we didn't do anything on that side. The actual garden side was tilled a few weeks ago & I put landscape fabric over it. Last year, the weeds overtook most of the garden. I do organic gardening & won't use chemicals.

So I planted 2 varieties of tomato plants that were bought at my local farmer's market. They are heirloom varieties of black krimm and black cherry tomatoes. I also planted seeds of heirloom beefsteak and more cherry tomatoes.

I also planted heirloom seeds of the following: pickling cucumbers; green onions; artichokes; and marigolds. I use a boarder of alternating onions and marigolds as a deterrent for the rabbits, etc with great success. This is my 1st year doing artichokes here, but this variety says you can start in summer and they will fruit through to winter. And if the winter isn't bad, it might be a perennial. I'm quite excited about that.

I also planted 2 different heirloom varieties of sunflowers. My son wanted the "happy flowers" but I also thought it would be good in the winter as a "flock block" - just toss the flower head, seed & all in & let them forage the seeds. It's a good treat no matter what. My son stole the packages after we carefully planted them where we wanted & apparently seed bombed my flower area and front bed. I have no idea where we will find giant sunflowers & teddy bear sunflowers growing. It will be a fun surprise.

Yes I just don't know that I want to deal with having everyone tell me how hatchery birds will never measure up to true breed standards. So I like this thread better. I will try to keep y'all updated on how it goes.
