Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

Hey, how old is your Poppy? My Legbars are about 5 weeks according to the breeder, but neither of them have nearly as much of a crest as your baby! Poppy's just starting to get a tuft of pin feathers on her head.

My 2 CCL's are 9 weeks. Trust me, the crest will pop up overnight it seems! Poppy has a much bigger crest than her sister does. I'll add some pics of them at 5-6 weeks and pics of them now :)

Poppy yesterday, she was sunbathing so her crest was extra pouffed lol

Pepper- Her crest looks more narrow like a Mohawk and looks more "combed back" where as Poppy's is wider and grows more straight up. I'm not sure if Peppers will fill in more or not?

YUP!!!  The Meyer 'Basket" has been calling my name and I may go for it. I average 4 eggs a day right now and there's so many issues with my girls.
My BR lays soft shelled eggs (am trying everything with her and if I give her extra calcium her egg is OK but that might be bad for her body. She just randomly drops an egg)
My one BA has a balding head and keeps getting worse no matter what I do
My other BA doesn't lay at all or once a week if lucky
My BB barely lays
My CW is getting the balding head and has had diarrhea for a week now... but eats and acts completely normal
My one EE is a nasty thing and is broody right now
My WC is not laying but she lost half her feathers last week and is finally growing new ones!!
So that leaves 3 reliable layers!  I barely have enough to give away let alone sell.

I saw this at the feed store and wondered if it could help your girls.

It's called Feather Fixer. Have you heard of it?

My 2 have a pretty good sized crest. I have to get new pics. Maybe it has to do with the breeder as well; if they're trying to develop larger/smaller ones.
Mine look so much alike I really can't tell them apart so I haven't named them yet! I was thinking of Bonnie Blue (Gone w/ the Wind and blue egg reference) not sure about the other one.

Awww, thanks for thinking of me!!! I'm about 3/4 the way through a bag... not sure it's doing anything.

BTW... I was having feed issues back in Jan/Feb and I did find out it was recalled a few months ago. I'm just wondering if that had anything at all to do with their issues. Something to do with the vitamins. It said to stop using right away. I was going to switch back to it but after reading about the recall I'm sticking to the Agway feed.

They are all so expressive. I love the name Bonnie Blue! Just don't let her ride a pony!

Glad you are trying it, sorry that you can't tell if it is making a difference. I hope it will help!!! It sounds like the problems that your girls have had and the feed recall are too much of a coincidence! There has got to be some connection

I agree! Maybe if you could figure out the exact reason for recall, you could fix it. If it is a vitamin thing, it could take a while to see a difference. I'd hate to think it would take until a molt to see a big improvement but at least you would know what is reasonable to expect.

My girls were perching on the side of the sandbox ...

So, I built them a roost in their run. They love it!

Nice roost! Your chicks are so cute! I love that age! You have grass in your run? I miss those days too! It's been a long time since we had any in our run!

That is "too much of a coincidence." That must be it! What brand of feed were you using?

I'd love to use an organic feed, but we cannot afford the price. We use Dumor layer crumbles from TSC. So far no problems with it. I want to research feed more, but I am afraid what I might find out since we really can't afford to switch to a more expensive one.

If it was your feed, maybe you'll start seeing improvements, I'd keep them on electrolyte water for awhile too. It makes me mad all these recalls on human and animal food. You put your trust and money in something and it almost kills you or your animals. We need more regulations and checks here.
