Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

Awesome!! So nice when things work like they're supposed to :)

That's the best part. I am going out every night to lock them up even though I'm sure they'd be perfectly safe if I left the pop door open... I just can't do it

So cute... do you know pullet or cockerel?

Oh my gosh.... thats just terrible. I'm sure you're freaking out. You are emailing the seller and nothing?? I forget ... was it someone from BYC?

The door opened this morning at 7 just like it was supposed to. It felt good to stay in bed this morning and not feel guilty about the chickens being locked up.
Our coop is inside a secure run inside an electrified area and I still can't leave the coop door open. Not that it really matters because the rabbit has dug a hole under one of the coop walls that it can fit through so I'm sure something else could too if it got past the first two defenses. But I sleep better at night knowing it's shut.

I agree, that SS looks like a girl. At that age would would definitely see more male characteristics.

Silkies are so hard to sex! I have been pretty accurate so far with the comb and crest. The boys I have had (3 now) have all gotten growth on their comb before the girls. The roo I have now has an identical crest to the pullet I have, no streamers, but his comb is MUCH larger, and more colorful, and strangely enough his earlobes are brighter. I knew when they were pretty young that he was a boy just from his comb alone. Now at 4mo there is no doubt.

I will have to post pics of mine... I still don't know. She/he is pretty brazen around the big girls and eats their treats and they kinda let him/her alone so that makes me think roo. Other than that, he/she seems to do typical pecking order stuff like the other girls. What should I be sure to get in my photos besides comb that would help you tell? They are just about 12 weeks old.

The comb and crest are the most important. But like I said, my roo's crest looks almost identical to the girl's. My roo also has no rooish behavior. I have seen him chest bump another roo once or twice when they were young but that's it. He's low on the pecking order and doesn't try to exert himself at all. Actually, none of my roos do yet. I think because they are younger and the older hens keep them in place.

I'll get my phone out and post some examples of the different combs and crests of the silkies I've had recently. So far I was 100% right on them by around 8 weeks old.

Here are my silkie cockerel and pullet now. Sorry their crests are messed up, they get wet when they drink. They both look like they have streamers but they really don't.

Recent close up of the cockerels comb

And the pullet

This is a buff we had for awhile around 11 weeks old, it's a roo. Note the slicked back crest that's a good indicator. This little guy didn't get his comb before we sold him though.

This is our pullet around 8 weeks old

And here is the cockerel the same age.. Note the much larger, colored comb.

Great pics... I'll try to get some new ones tomorrow. Now I'm leaning toward pullet on mine by the looks of comb/crest. And I don't have any other roosters to sort of suppress the rooster behavior.
Have all of yours been hatchery silkies or breeder? Maybe that helps with sexing too? Mine is hatchery.

It is someone from BYC. She's selling her flick because of personal issues. I wonder if that's what is going on. She's been a member since 2008 so I'm pretty sure everything is on the up and up. I'm more worried about what my stupid PO may have done with them. Hopefully my next logon is to post pictures.
I'm getting more worried... no news yet??

Nothing. I called the post office earlier. The guy never heard of priority express with hold to pickup. This is what scares me. This PO is ridiculous. Everything always arrives a day later than expected. That would be tomorrow. Still keeping my fingers crossed to hear from the seller. I know she's dealing with a lot and does not get online everyday. I am really worried though. Trying to stay positive. I'm worry about how long these girls can go in a shipping box. I keep telling myself if battery hens can do, maybe they can. Maybe the seller didn't ship them as planned? The good news (if there is any) is that the weather has been slightly cooler than I expected the last few days. Oh geez. But it's nice to see everyone's pictures. I'll have to actually catch up once things settle down.

The buff was a hatchery, the other two we hatched from a local breeder. I had 2 others from the same breeder and 1 is a girl and the other a boy. The boy had a similar crest to the buff on that one. My friend has those 3 now. I'll have to ask her for updated pics.

Ok, just got some updated pics of the other silkies.
Here is the buff now. It's not the best pic but you can see the color in the comb and the swept back crest.

This is the boy now, not much comb but look at that swept back crest

And the girl for comparison. She how her crest goes in all directions like a puff ball almost obscuring her eyes?
