Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

It is someone from BYC. She's selling her flick because of personal issues. I wonder if that's what is going on. She's been a member since 2008 so I'm pretty sure everything is on the up and up. I'm more worried about what my stupid PO may have done with them. Hopefully my next logon is to post pictures.

I'm getting more worried... no news yet??

Nothing. I called the post office earlier. The guy never heard of priority express with hold to pickup. This is what scares me. This PO is ridiculous. Everything always arrives a day later than expected. That would be tomorrow. Still keeping my fingers crossed to hear from the seller. I know she's dealing with a lot and does not get online everyday. I am really worried though. Trying to stay positive. I'm worry about how long these girls can go in a shipping box. I keep telling myself if battery hens can do, maybe they can. Maybe the seller didn't ship them as planned? The good news (if there is any) is that the weather has been slightly cooler than I expected the last few days. Oh geez. But it's nice to see everyone's pictures. I'll have to actually catch up once things settle down.

Hopefully, she hasn't contacted you because she hasn't shipped them yet or did so later than she said. Fingers crossed!!!

That's what I was thinking... she didn't mail when she said she would. Fingers crossed for them!!
Ok, just got some updated pics of the other silkies.
Here is the buff now. It's not the best pic but you can see the color in the comb and the swept back crest.

This is the boy now, not much comb but look at that swept back crest

And the girl for comparison. She how her crest goes in all directions like a puff ball almost obscuring her eyes?
more confused than ever LOL. I'll post asap and see what you say :) They are cuties though!!!

Awesome!!  So nice when things work like they're supposed to :)

That's the best part. I am going out every night to lock them up even though I'm sure they'd be perfectly safe if I left the pop door open... I just can't do it

So cute... do you know pullet or cockerel?

Oh my gosh.... thats just terrible. I'm sure you're freaking out.  You are emailing the seller and nothing?? I forget ... was it someone from BYC?
I'm not sure of the gender yet. Any guesses?!

This heat has been bad. I dump ice in there extra water bowl I put out for them and give them frozen watermelon rinds and the electrolyte water.

I hope that your rooster is a good one, so hard having mean birds. We don't keep any mean ones here either.

Best of luck for eggs from those 19 week olds!

Walmart or Tractor supply sell the big round black rubber bowls. I use one for their extra summer water and just fill it up fresh each day and add ice. It does not move around and scare them like some of the other things would. Not too expensive either. Since they stand in it and drink it, I try to change it often and I may buy another one so I can just swap them out when needed.
I only add the electrolytes to their regular waterer so they have a choice.

I do not have any but I hope someone answers you, I'd like to know too and see some.

Can't wait to see those pics!

Oh no, I hope that you hear something soon. I'm worried for you too!
I have a couple of the smaller black bowls and love them. I didn't think of getting a larger one. Maybe they won't be scared of it? I'll try that... thx

So 3 of my chickens had a close encounter with our dog, Maxie. Thank goodness she did not go too crazy. She chased them a little but not in a vicious way. I thought that I locked them all up but I missed one of my BR's, the GLW and the CW. They must have been deep down in a dusting hole that they made at the side of the house because I looked around and I thought everyone was inside the run.

We have outside security cameras and I checked them and she just herded them around a little and did not go into her kill mode like she does for opossums, rats and squirrels. I think she knows that they belong here since she sees them everyday in the run and coop plus we keep her on her leash if she is out with them.

I still do not trust her with them, but I am so glad she did not kill them today. I need to do a better head count after locking them up next time. They free range a little in the morning and late afternoon and Maxie is always locked up when they do. I really dodge a bullet there or well the chickens did. I need to be more careful!

Oh my gosh but look how pretty Maxie is!!! Since she didn't attack maybe she is learning a bit that they belong there... not intruders. Gorgeous dog!!

Here is my Austra White taken today at 11 and a half weeks old.

I would love one of these... very pretty. Can't wait to hear about her eggs. I've been checking the Meyer site cause I would get one of these if they became available! Keep us posted.

Does anyone know what type of sand to use for a run... masonry or concrete sand? I know better than to use play sand... not sure which of the other to use.
I used what they call construction sand. It has lots of little stones in it. Great for the birds to eat as grit and I guess it helps with the rain as well. I'm not sure which of the 2 you mentioned it would be called.

Silkies...I SWEAR!

Brownie - my biggest (non-Meyer) buff silkie approx 6.5 wks old that has always acted like a roo...well, she MAY be a girl!

Coco - my smallest (non-Meyer) biff silkie approx 6.5 wks (but may be a week behind, that's why he/she is smaller) MAY be a boy! I see the start of waddles on Coco. Nothing on Brownie. Both of their crests are about the same. Poofs are about the same, with no obvious streamers at this point.

I will try to take pics later, if I can.

Geeze louise!

But...4 days and counting until my trip to Meyers!!!!
Those Silkies are always a guess. Maybe if you send pics to the breeder they can help?
Woohoo.... 4 days!!!

I'm not sure of the gender yet. Any guesses?!
Maybe get a few more pics and people can guess? I can't even guess my own so really, I'm not good at Silkies. If I had to say, I would guess boy just because of the comb but a side shot to see the crest and see if it's swept back may help?

Uh-oh... now that I see pics I'm really seeing a boy. My son has renamed Patty Patty... it's now Sir Patrick Thrillington the Third.

the first one is blurry the rest are better. He/she is almost 12 weeks...

I made them pretty big so you could get a better look. Any guesses??

Someone on another thread suggested the big black rubber bowls when I first started out.

I am so tempted to try Maxie out with the chickens but am so scared too. Supervised of course.

Are these the same chicken in each picture? I have no idea even after looking at everyone's silkie pictures whether they are boys or girls. I still do not see what everyone else sees. Very confused! Good luck! I really hope they are both girls.

Same one in all pics. I just have 1 Silkie. Started with 2 but one died at 3 days old. I'm thinking with the longer tail feathers coming in it adds to the reasons I'm thinking boy. Crest going back and wide comb are the other things I see.

@christine9

Any news yet? :fl

X2. Was afraid to ask

Oh I'm sorry, I was think that you still had two of them. There are a lot of people with silkies on here now. I think I live in a state of confusion.

Yeah, I was afraid to ask too, I hope they are okay. I'd be a nervous wreck.
