Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

Congrats on the green and blue eggs folks!

I thought I would upload another round of photos from my new set of Meyer girls. They are all 5 weeks old.

The first is Bertha, our Olive Egger. She looks exactly like a cross between our last year's Meyer Hatchery Blue Ameraucana and Black Copper Maran. Her feathers are a pretty blue gray with a little bit of brown in her neck and feathered legs. Can't wait to see how her olive eggs look!





Next is Dolores VanCartier, our Silver Laced Polish. She makes us laugh every time we look at her!





This is the Buff Orpington that I am raising for a friend. She didn't want to deal with the chick stage so I'm going to give them to her when they're a bit older.





This is my Blue Laced Red Wyandotte, Penelope. At first I was bummed because she was looking like she had turned out black-laced, but now the lacing is starting to look more blue. I'd love to know people's thoughts based on their own BLRW on what color she looks like to them!





And this is the Silver Laced Wyandotte which I am also raising for that same friend.





What age to people normally introduce their new chicks to their existing flock. Right now they're spending all day in a Peck and Play inside my adults' run but then I bring them inside at night. When do people normally start the introduction process?

Welsummer, Summer (22wks) - she looks almost identical to our PR from far away. They have a different pattern on their feathers up close and the Welsummer has yellow legs. But overall I'm disappointed in the similarities. If she doesn't lay a good egg, she'll have to go.



And she's not young, here is our broody D'Uccle, Flower. I love how fluffy she gets.

This is what she was sitting on. I got 2 more by the end of the day (2 days worth). It has been really rainy here so they are muddy.

I love the OE. Can't wait to see her grow up. Your BLRW looks like a black blue laced. The blues don't breed true. I think it's neat looking. I think ours (pic in the post above) is a splash.
Our BO still has no tail. I don't know if someone is plucking it or what. We have a SLP from Meyer too and I just love her.
My first set of chicks I introduced around 8 weeks but the rest I've done as early as 3 when the weather is nice. The first set was picked on more and needed their own area to run to for a lot longer. The rest just fit right in. I guess the older girls got used to new additions and don't worry about them as much.

I want Frizzles... maybe in a few years... just making sure I keep the 4 I have happy and healthy first...

Of the 3 you asked about... my CCL don't lay yet but I had 4 EE's (Now just 3) and they are my best layers. 2 lay green and the other is cream and hers is the biggest of all my girls. I will always have them. Can't wait to see how my CCL lay!!

Wow, that's a long time to not crow. You don't have another rooster either do you?  Still not sure about my Silkie... 14 1/2 weeks and no crowing.  But I guess that's not unusual.

My blue silkie did not start crowing until 22 weeks old. Just thought I'd let you know

I look forward to seeing the progress of your chicks, you have a few breeds I'm interested in.

I introduced my last batch around 3 to 4 weeks but in a separate area within the coop and run. So they could all be together and see each other all day. After a week or two I opened up a small area where the little ones could get out when they wanted too, I also added some hiding spots within the run. So eventually the little ones would run out and mix with the big ones, they still had separate food and water within their area too.

Once everyone was pretty much together all the time I took down the partitions. Plus, by then our biggest chick was too fat to get in the separate area anyway. I think they were all mixed together by the time the babies were 7 to 8 weeks old. It's been awhile now since my last batch of chicks are a year old this week, but I have all one flock now.

Great looking girls. The OEs really are quite attractive, I was a bit skeptical because the hatcheries don't have pictures of them in their catalogs yet. But then again I'm not sure if I want darker green eggs yet. I'm hoping for sage green from our EE but obviously would be fine with blue-green.

Dolores is fabulous! Seeing people's Polish have changed my mind about them too. They aren't at the top of my list but one day I would like a Buff Laced and a White Crested Blue.

If the Peck and Play is in the run it sounds like you are already introducing them. What have been your big girls reactions so far?

Aww I hope she lays you a nice speckled or dark brown egg for you. I like both the PR and Wellies feathers.

My jar of fermenting feed overflowed today. Oops. And has a distinct smell kinda yeasty or like cheese. This is ok right? I stirred it and topped it off with more water.
