Here is my BLRW as a 2 day old, for comparison.



Hyzenthlay, I think yours looks just like Blossom did at that age, and I think the lighter shade of black compared to your other hen does mean something, so she might be blue after all. Fingers crossed.

Well, my two blue splash Marans are 20 weeks old today, and the rest of that group are only a week behind them, so I have told them it's time to get busy laying some eggs. I can't wait- I only have three egg layers right now.

She's beautiful! It's nice that you have an older, special one.

I wasn't going to keep any once they pass prime laying age, but when I went to sell my older hens, I just didn't want to let Jenny (my 3yo Barred Rock) go. And I'm glad I kept her, because when people are looking out the door at the flock, they always pick her out and say they like her the best.

I'm going to let her stay as long as she wants to.

So first pic in the box the one standing in the middle with the distinct white stripes down it's back is a Welsummer. Much harder to tell in the second pic, so many chipmunks! But in the third pic the second chick next to the feeder is a Wellie and the one at the bottom *might be* too. The EEs for the most part should have fluffier faces, the Wellies are bit more sleek and the Wyadottes look a bit more spotted. Your meal maker appears to be either a Rhode Island Red or a Buckeye
