Another review for Meyer: Just got the chicks yesterday. All were alive and healthy. My only request for them would have been to notify me that they were mailing the chicks a day earlier than scheduled. They were scheduled to hatch Tuesday, but apparently they hatched Monday as I got a call from the post office on Tuesday to tell me that they had arrived. I wasn't expecting to receive them till Thursday or Friday so did some scrambling to get stuff set up. Other than that, customer service was friendly and helpful. I ordered 4 pullets; they threw in an extra chick. I told them if they did throw in an extra, that I *could not* have any roosters and it looks like the extra is a pullet (it's a sex-linked), so I'm happy. Overall, ordering from them was a good experience and I would certainly buy from them again. You've all seen a million pics of baby chicks, but here's one more. One cuckoo Maran, one Delaware, 3 Buff Comets

Of those 8 out of 14 Old English Bantams pasted away within 48 hours.
Also we learned that just because you order Old English Bantams,
doesn't guarantee that that's what your going to get.

All of the Golden Buffs lived.

We notified Meyer Hatchery about the deaths of bantams and they were really nice about it.
Unfortunately they were not able to ship replacements for a month.
So we had to build a chicken tractor for them because the older chicken tried to kill them.

5 BB Red Old English Bantams,
1 Crele Old English Bantams,
2 Barred Old English Bantams

I have used Meyer for Marans and Jersey Giants. I'd say no better or worse than any of the other big guys out there. They were pretty prompt to replace the dozen dead day-olds I got. Things like that are entirely out of the hatchery's hands, though. Weather and temperature in transit are the big killers, not the baby chicks being placed in the box.

Also, as for availability, breeding does tend to peter-off in Autum/Winter.

As far as weather related deaths, I was surprised that there was no temporary heating pad in the shipping box for the 5 chicks. I thought that was part of the $20 small order charge? I think Mypetchicken ships their small orders with a heating pad.

Post office called at 0630 as I was heading out the door for work, and I went to go pick up 15 Barred Rocks from Meyer.

All were clean and apparently healthy and lively, and started eating and drinking right off the bat in the brooder. We'll see how they do over the next couple days.

One more box was in the PO when I picked up ours, about a 3x3 flat, so I figure ~50 birds or so. They sounded pretty lively also.

I ordered seven chickens from Meyer in November of 2012 for delivery in April 2013. After reading some of the negative comments i became concerned about their arriving in good health. I called for reassurance and to be very honest i found them to be one of the most cooperative company i have ever dealt with. Still, I was concerned. The shipped yesterday. I received an email from them and a phone message informing me they had shipped and was provided with the tracking number. At ten o'clock this morning the post office called and they were here. Now, THAT was fast. I opened the box and there were seven alert little chicks looking at me. They started eat and drink within minutes.Now, i have had then for less than 9 hours, but so far so good. I have one that seems a little slower to respond and am hoping she makes it, but, so far so good. I would not hesitate to use them, in fact, i would recommend you do so. Their salespeople are wonderful. the woman i spoke with when i placed this order was of great help and spent a lot of time helping me chose the right birds for my very small yard. Now all i have to do is worry about my neighbors. good luck in your shopping.

I have had several batches of chicks from them this year. I placed my order in late December/early January because of limited availability of some special breeds. All of them arrived as promised for time. Every chick was alive and healthy and active. They have grown great... I got Buff Orpingtons, barred plymouth rocks, and black australorps for a friend. She reports that they are growing like weeds and doing great. I have a buckeye, speckled sussex, 2 welsummers, 4 splash marans, a gold cuckoo marans, a black copper marans, and a blue copper marans from Meyer. They are all too young to lay yet, but are doing great. They are friendly, forage well in my backyard, and have feathered out to be very pretty ladies. There was a screwup on MY part, and they bent over backwards to help me resolve it. Very happy with the birds and service.
