Meyer or McMurray?

After learning I have waaaay more cockerels than I originally planned, I'm dreaming for more pullets. Just priced out the same things on both. Meyer is about $10 cheaper. Is one better than the other?

Are there better hatcheries than either of these? I priced out 15 chicks (because that's McMurry's minimum) but I may not get that many. I love that Meyer's minimum is 3, but they kill you on shipping!

Meyer is great, if you order a larger number. I ordered the rainbow pullet assortment, which is sold in lots of 25 chicks. They guarantee atleast 5 breeds, but I got(I think) 9 different breeds.(polish, cohins, sexlinks, marans, brahmas, sultans, wyandottes, easter eggers, and barnvelders) 25 pullets, some awesome breeds, plus a free meal maker chick that is a pullet, and a cool calender for 72$.

I got mine last year from Mt healthy and loved them, shipping prices are much better than meyer, but they have the 15 chick minimum. I have more coming from them next week. they are near cincinnati OH. I wish meyer's shipping was cheaper because I really wanted some of the breeds/varieties they have but mt healty didn't

The closer the hatchery, the better except for McMurray. They ship on Saturday so you won't get them until at least Monday. The small order shipping is high because they have to put in heating pads and extra bedding to try and keep the birds warm. Meyer is less expensive on shipping than most large hatcheries. What breeds are you looking for? I would look locally for such a small amount, ask around or at the local feed store for someone who might sell you a few chicks. Good luck.

Well, just some good layer breeds. Just found out 10 of my 17 chicks are cockerels.

I always scan Craigslist just for fun, but then found a good deal on 8 chicks, but it was two hours away. Well, ended up taking the trip, and now have two EEs, two Silver Laced Wyandottes, two Golden Laced Wyandottes, an Amber Link, and a Jumbo Cornish. $10 for all, plus she gave me an almost-full bag of Purina medicated crumbles. And I get decent gas mileage, so it was totally worth it.

That should give me a good enough laying flock for now as long as those new ones end up being pullets. That's what the lady paid for, but they are from Townline, and I've heard that they are not alway pullets, even when you pay extra for them. I love these new ones! I've wanted EEs since I got into chickens.
