Rhode Island red for sure but not sure what other kind to go with any ideas

Rhode Island Reds are sometimes aggressive (especially hatchery grade RIRs). With children involved, I would suggest going with one of the breeds that has a well deserved reputation for being calm and gentle (potential lap pets) such as Australorps, Orpingtons, Brahmas, Cochins, Silkies, Sussex, or Faverolles. If egg production is a priority, Australorps are the best layers on this list. Silkies and Cochins are the poorest layers on the list, although they are the best brooders and mothers. Whatever breeds you decide to get, good luck with your flock.

Thank You so much egg laying is a high priority for us and we are looking forward to teaching Syndil all about the process.
