Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

When my mom and me were having a garage sale last weekend the neighbors had free kittens. I texted dh "kitten?" He texted back he'd rather have a cow in the house. So I'm on the look out for free cows signs lol

If your flock appears healthy one morning's observation of "red stool" isn't justification to start treating birds that may not be sick. Are the droppings bloody or is it just a very reddish example of cecal droppings. I personally would wait until the 2nd day and see if the droppings are still a concern.

I was glad to read about people with interest in kittens. Perhaps the next time I see free ones someone would split one with me since I've never been able to eat a whole one.

Lord I'm sorry about that. Forgive me and please help the starvin' Pygmies.

So now, today, maybe just sit on your porch and enjoy the hummingbirds? I have some so I know you have, hmmm, a hundred, or so. Last time I was there they just about carried me away, ha ha. Take care...John
Oh yes, they are back. I have already used 10 cups of sugar so far. Sometimes it can be a bit dangerous to sit on the porch. You will have to bring Cindy over to see them...anytime.

I will be on the look out for any signs like that.
When it rains, it freakin floods! First my scovy hen and now one of my blue marans pullets. I have no idea what or how this happened but she has a broken wing! Her left wing appears to be broken at the shoulder. She was laying on her back kund of to her left side with her left wing extended when I went out to feed this morning. The underside of her wing was bloody - I don't know if the other chicks did it or not. There's not really anything she could fall from except for the feeder itself (which is usually knocked over every morning).
I cut the sleeve off of one of my shirts and put it over her to keep the wing immobile. I bluecoted the underside to prevent infection. I've separated her from the rest of the chicks. She falls to her right when she walks though which worries me, too. I know I should probably cull her but I would rather try to rehab her. Even if her wing is never fully functional, I can make special accomodations for her or she can become a house chicken. Any help would be appreciated!
So sorry.

LOL. My daughter volunteers at an animal rescue. And that's how we now have three cats....
My two younger boys used to volunteer for the local animal rescue [Lake Haven]. That's how we got two of our cats. They are now 10 years old. When they are gone I won't be getting anymore. I am sick of litter boxes

The bad thing is this is one of the pullets that was coming to CS with me! I'm hoping she will recover enough to have some use of that wing.
I can't find any signs of anything having tried to get into the chicken tractor that houses the young ones. I do have 4 possibly 5 cockerals in there that I'm going to have to downsize on as they are beginning to get testy with one another. I want to keep 2 as they are all copper marans but I was waiting to see what kind of coloring they would end up with. 2 are going to have great coppering but are light on the leg feathering. One is going to be okay coppering but he has much nicer leg feathering. 8 of the younger marans were hatched from very dark eggs. This injured pullet was from that younger dark eggs batch.
