Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Seriously, take care of that ear! Get a Dr note and be up front with your employer. My friend had chronic ear issues and now she is practically deaf and has a huge hole where her canal use to be... Hope you feel better soon.
Has anyone ever used colloidal silver? (wonder if that would help with your ear)
The sick birds seem more chipper today though I know it's too early to really tell.
Hope everyone has a safe but fun 4th!

uchytil... I called a dealership about the jeep. Explained what's been happening.. They suggested I start the jeep up, take a rolled up newspaper and stick it in the fan and see what happens. I have a clutch fan in that, and they are thinking that even though it is a free spinning on the drive belt, it's not working properly. SO... going to do that when it's not raining. If that's not the problem, they'll set me an appt to bring the beast of money suck in... Joy.
Yep, fans are often overlooked as major sources of problems like we discussed. Good luck Nova!

Remember this? It's lots better now, but I ran out of shavings from the coop to mulch with because I decided to mulch the tomato plants to keep the weeds down. I overestimated how much I had, and ran out. I'll finish papering and mulching in the fall I think.

I can't believe how well the tomato plants are doing! I don't know what I'm going to do with all of them this year!

Can 'em!!!! Yumm. Not much that's better than home canned 'maters. Last summer they did so well we did salsa, canned tomatoes, and used Mrs. Wages packets to make pizza sauce and pasta sauce. That was the first time I had tried either and they turned out GREAT! Well worth the effort.

Thanks all for the advise. I decided to call in for to call in for tomorrow. I am sure they will be able to find a replacement, someone who wants the extra holiday pay. Likely going back to the doctor on Friday, as it feels like it is getting worse again, more pain and goo from the ear. Yuck! I got notes now from the most recent doctor visit, and the older urgent care visit(before it ruptured).

I feel like a big wuss. Normally I am fine with any pain. But something about this ear pain has me humbled, omg.

I agree with the sand for the muddy run. Any organic materials (wood chips, etc.) will end up holding water and make the matter worse when they begin to decompose.

Take care of that ear, Stacy!!!

Raccoon just got in my run and into the coop where two of my broodies are. One broody was seriously injured, but I think she's going to be able to make it as long as she doesn't get an infection. I have filled the hole where the skin was ripped away exposing back muscles and tendons with triple a after getting all the gunk out.

I have locked the coops themselves so they can not get in the run in the morning until I let them in. I am going to have to find where it got in, but I am thinking through the hoop roof somewhere, though I can not see a hole, but it was dark, and in the morning, I will be able to make a better inspection.

I put the broodies eggs under Beulah, but might put them back under Little Pretty in the morning, and hope she's able to finish the brood. She's only a week into it. If not, they'll finish in the incubator. They are from Texas I think, a blue cuckoo marans.

I don't think I have ever ran so fast in my life... Well, I have, but you know what I mean. I was sitting at my puter, by a window, playing angry birds star wars... I know, total child here, and I heard the commotion. There were 4 chicks in that coop also. A perfectly colored fav pullet, a silkie mutt, a faverolle boy, not good color, and another red pullet, I don't know the daddy was on that one, but I think one of the boys that went bye bye earlier in the year... Time to set the duke trap and find the hole it got in through. Until the coon is dipatched, all birds will just have to endure being locked up. Might have to put Florus IN a coop with his girls... Oh jeez... it was his girls that are broody! BUT, he can't be confined with Rod Stewart too long...

That's terrible - I'm assuming there was only the one serious injury and the others were all okay? Wow. Raccoons are abundant here, so even though I have a heavy six foot fence I still lock them in their houses at night. Ironic that my two losses to predators were both to daytime raids. Lost a wyandotte last week but I suspect it was a dog or fox. No blood or drag marks, just a commotion and nothing but a few of her feathers by the time I got there. They had been loose in the yard for the afternoon.

I agree! I haven't had to buy whole tomatoes, stewed tomatoes or salsa for 4 years now; and still have ~48 pints in the pantry!

ANYTHING you use tomatoes for tastes 1000x better with ur own canned maters :D

I just started using Mrs. Wages stuff 2 years ago. LOVE it. I even use the hot salsa one & add my own onion, jalapeño & habaneros, gives me a other version of salsa besides my "homemade" ones.
