Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Agree with Lisa. I have read about the fishing line solution in several different places. Sounds like a simple, cheap solution to try.

I have 2 resident red tail hawks (which are simply gorgeous). They pretty much spend most their time riding the thermals. Once in a while I get to enjoy their beauty when the spread their wings & sun themselves in a tree out back...very cool :)

Right now it is the juvenile that is driving me nuts. The silly thing screeches all day to be fed, even tho it is big enough (& does) to feed itself. It has been making some pretty low "fly-bys" in the yard, but, all my birds are 16 weeks, are big enough & seem to know to get under deck (wraps around whole house) / weeping cherry tree.

On that note, there is a fishing line I use (for fishing) that lasts forever and is very strong. I think it's called spider wire or spider line? Has a spider on the box. Way better than regular fishing line so if your gonna do the fishing line thing might try that stuff. A little pricier but I think by like a buck or two. Probably save money in the long run. Ill post a pick later. Going to meijer and they have it.

Help, please!
Anyone have a clue what might be munching on my broccoli leaves (& brussel sprout)? Can see no bugs, have a 4' fence & none of the other veggies/plants in the garden have been bothered....

There is a product call BT.. Bacillious theragenisis.. something like that. you spray it on all brasecas which are broccoli,cabbage,cauliflower.. and it is organic, the cabbage worm eats the leave with this stuff on it.. and it has a bacteria that makes them sick and die, i think it attacts the stomach lining of those little buggers.. this will get rid of them. I got mine at ace hardware.

First eggs!!!!!! Went to coop to start cleaning & there were 2 cute little pullet eggs!!!!!

They are only ~16 wks old so wasn't expecting any for a few weeks yet!!!!!

Well that started a debate with DH. He insists they see the reflection of the regular line and suggests the 30 pound line. Here's a pic for reference though

Yay! Yes, layer feed.

Here's a few seconds of video that I shot of Custard and baby. Then the sheep started making a racket, scratching their butts on the hay feeder.

Catching up on the posts today. I spent the day driving up to Lake City to attend the Baker's Green Acres trial and show my support for a farmer being targeted by state agencies run amok. This is the swine case you may have heard about. There were close to 200 people there in support of Mr. Baker and his family farm.

Channel 9&10 News was there so you might see something on tonight's broadcast. If you do can you let me know? There were other media outlets there from as far away as Cincinnati Ohio plus a film-maker doing a documentary.

Support your local farmer!
Could you supply the www. site for this article. I would like to get clued into it. Thanks.

Well I am going to candle some eggs tonight. On Tuesday morning, I pulled 6 eggs out of my fridge and put them under one of my broody hens. I'll be interested in seeing if they are doing anything at this point since a few had been in there for at least 2 weeks. Of course, my OTHER broody (she's been sitting for over 2 weeks) decided that the eggs I gave her on Thursday weren't good enough and abandoned them in favor of the eggs the other hens are laying in the corner.

This is the same hen who tried to kill chicks I gave her 2 weeks ago. Since I can't break her, I decided to give her 4 eggs to sit on from my Wyandotte and my cuckoo marans (hello sex-linked chicks!). I'm thinking it might be necessary to put her in a broody pen so she can't get "confused" about where to go......not that the OTHER broody has that problem.

Is anyone interested in the blue maran roosters..show qaulity stock , french.. from linden michigan.. my friend has them and would like to sell them.

precious kitty- Congratulations on the eggs, what breed of pullets do you have, and if you have pullets that arent laying yet.. you may not want to start giving laying mash for the layers, the layer mash is not good for younger pullets that are not laying yet.. if you need to keep using chick grower for others just put a source of calcium out for the two layers they will find it..

i have isa that will be 16 wks in 4 days.. and they are sqauting, have big red combs, and i see my ee roo is trying to mate with them.. so i am hoping for eggs anyday.. i think they are getting pretty close..i got mine at tsc..
