Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Does anyone have any ideas for automatic pop doors that could be acquired/assembled/installed in TWO DAYS??? <.< It turns out that my farm-sitter can only come by once a day in the evenings and I really don't think it's a good idea to keep the pop door open all night, every night while I'm gone and with a fox around - but equally unacceptable is leaving them all cooped up together all day. I know I should have thought of this sooner but my mind has been absolutely a jumbled mess lately. I've seen some made with a simple drapery motor and a timer... any better suggestions?
heres one, problem is they take a few days just to learn what they need to do

Whew, hot day. I hope ya'll and all your animals are keeping cool. My goats have mostly abstained from playing in order to lay in the shade.

I just let my magpies out of their introduction cage, so they've been enjoying stretching their legs. They're keeping close to the coop, too, so thankfully they know where 'home' is already.

It is a bit warm, so they were panting.

Following my adult pekin female. She was leading them to the pond!...but the pond has dried up for the year. I guess she was hopeful. That is why they have a kiddie pool now!

The three waddling along.

Resting in the shade. I have a kiddie pool and two bins of cool water for them to bath in, to escape the heat. I've even seen a few chickens standing in the water...it is that warm!

Well my first big tragedy was last night, a coon broke a window and killed all but one young pullet, I just put a hen and her four babies in there yesterday she was so happy to have so much more room then this pretty sad about it

Did you manage the catch the coon, at least? It can at least save the lives of other birds!

In place of screen on my coop windows, I have hardware cloth. Maybe that might be a good thing to add to your coop? So such a tragedy doesn't happen in the future.

We use a drapery motor.....the one you aren't "supposed" to use for chicken coops. Have it on a timer with a counter-weight to make it work properly. It opens at 8am or so, and closes around dark-thirty. Super easy to install of you already have an outlet. Just takes some fiddling to get the correct amount of rope to feed. We had ours installed and working within an hour. GETTING one for a decent price is the hard part.

What kind of stores stock them, if any? That really looked the like the easiest solution to me, after doing some research.

Sorry, lady. Looked you up and you're too far away for me to sit for your chickens.
Aw, well thanks for trying

Gave my girls ice cream today. They looooved it. Pretty funny watching one take a big gulp and then running off scratching her head nonstop. Brain freeze for chickens is a thing I guess. But no smarter than us humans. As soon as it wore off the galloped back for seconds. Hilarious.

Anyone want a year old buff orp roo? Hes absolutely beautiful and a real gentleman and protector of the ladies. Us humans are not so lucky with him as he can get a bit nasty at times when you are not looking. Free for the asking or he goes to market in about 2 weeks. I would guess about 11 lbs. Its a hot one today! New chicks are suffering a bit but okay.
