Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

I had a hen that never laid an egg, but was times bigger than her mother, and was the same size as her father, but never crowed, and have seen a few rooster mate her. Her comb and waddles was 2x bigger than all the roosters. She was a oddball.
I plan on ordering Organic Barley seeds next time I go to town, the seeds that I got was seed grade, but when I opened the bag, I checked for coating of any sort. it was not coated with anything. Yay! Wait! There are GMO barley??? AARRGGHH! Will just buy the organic kind from now on!

Even though I am deaf, I talk really fast! People tell me to slow down sometimes, but if someone else is talking too fast, I can't understand/ keep up.

I was shocked to learn that hens can go through spontaneous sex change! they put their testosterone in full gear and start behaving like roosters! What happened to that hen, did you just let her live out her life? If TwoTone is half and half, he is so sweet right now I would allow him/her to live out life. But, he could be half/half male too :) I just hope since he is so docile and only peeps at 16 weeks he will stay that way. He is pretty and a nice bird.
I would love to get organic barley, none of the elevators close to us have it available.
I always talk fast and have to make myself slow down

but I know I am not as fast as the East Coasters, for sure!

I have a BO hen (she's my snuggly chicken) who has been changing into a roo over the last 4 months :(. She's not my little girl any more :'(
She will still be living out her life with us :).

One evening, 5 years ago, the chickens were making a huge ruckus, and my dad told me to check what was going on with them, and I went out to the layer coop, and there on the floor 6 feet below the roost, was her, dead. She must had died from a heart attack, and fell off the roost making a big thud that scared the rest of the chickens, thus making a ruckus. Her name was Hennypenny. She lived for about 3 or 4 years. I have a few pictures of her but I will have to scan them to upload on here.

I do believe that Pat the Rat will soon be no longer for this place. He's been declining recently, can't tell what is wrong with him, but he's not red in the face any more, his crop feels mushy, but there is no bad smell, and there is no impaction. He's eating bits and drinking. Must be hard to walk around with his belly and crop always on the ground. He's never been picked on here, and in fact, has been the terror of the garage... thus "THE RAT" part of his name. There is not gurgling, no gasping. He doesn't fell like he's lost any weight, and he's not got diarrhea. Just a bummer. I am just glad that he's been pretty happy here... bummed cuz he's only a year old this july...

I am so upset...just had a couple of golden retrievers I have never seen before romp through our yard. One had a choke collar the other had no collar

They got our EE Bratty...

iamfivewire is burying her right now. I had just walked inside to use the bathroom when I saw a large dog running in the back, screamed to Brett "theres a dog in the yard" Then we heard screams, I ran outside barefoot and saw two large retrievers bounding across the street with a bird hanging from their mouth...I screamed "NO" at the dogs and they dropped the bird to run towards us. They were wagging their tails but it was too late.

The police just took the dogs away to the animal control center ... but I am so sad about what happened. Poor little Bratty, they took a big chunk out of her back. I picked her up from the neighbors yard, lots of feathers all over...

It took us two hours to find the other three EE's in the woods. Brett took the dogs to our eight foot enclosed patio and locked them in while we secured the chickens.

again I am faced with changing my signature line...sigh...

His looks like the "not eating one". Which is consistant, but even though i've been pushing food he will only eat a couple flavors of canned cat food (egg and tuna, green can) and cracked corn, he still isn't pooing any better. I've brought him home off and on but after more than a day with just me he misses his flock and i have to bring him back. That other roo has to go. Everyone is getting the powdered antibiotics from TSC in the water; too much bumblefoot. Who knows, maybe it's some type of bacterial and it may help? Poor guy is lethargic and sleepy. I am kinda wondering if there is anyone who is decent priced to bring a poop sample to is in my area? It's not spreading but i still want to know at this point. He's a beauty, too, and the only remaining son of my pet rooster that had to be put down last summer. My area would be the plainfield end of GR, sparta, cedar springs, coopersville, ravenna........?
daddy

son; blue and silver, yellow all over too? idk on his color. Looks like lemon but it's not possible.
