Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

The criminal chicken keeper is forming a band of renegade egg runners.

I'll be in Farmington Hills on Sunday the 1st of Sept. I'm sure we could find some shady back alley.

A couple of my birds are also moulting.

Thanks so much taprock that's what I was hoping to hear. My new roo so far is my most loyal bird, he enjoys being held and loves to sit on the arm of my lawn chair when I sit for a break. I'm glad to hear that it may be beneficial to keep him around. I'm going to let it ride and see how it goes, hopefully all will be well. Thanks again....
Also if you have a good roo it is very interesting to watch how they interact with the hens. I loved watching mine. I never knew that they would call the girls over to get a yummy treat. Some roos will even show the girls where to lay their eggs.

Welcome to the new members

Tap, you are right, the kids get judged when they do showmanship. It might be a plus since your son could tell the judge what is wrong with the bird. Good luck.

i never did showmanship with birds, but i used to do rabbits. it did tend to be a bonus if the animal wasn't a very good show animal, as long as you can explain why. shows you know the faults of your breed. i did once have a pet class judge critic my rabbit for having poor confirmation. well, that is why he was a pet. i even had a cute/clever costume that year

My roos do both the treat & nesting things! In fact, Blackie sometimes even holds a nice piece of grass in his beak & will share it with one of the girls.

The whole pointing out a nest thing. For a while I could not figure out what 2 of my roos were doing, then figured it out...showing the girls where to nest.

They really are fun to watch..and, Bigboy, is REALLY good at getting everyone under cover when my favorite (sarcasm) juvenile hawk is hanging out in my yard....

Right now my only issue is the crowing contests Blackie & Bigboy like to have (Roo, my little wussy cockerel is pretty quiet, loves to follow me like a puppy, be held, etc...)

I am actually excited about this unexpected turn of events, I'll just have to take my neighbors some eggs when I go to apologize for the noise.
