Yes there is something very wrong with you.

But, wanting to add something positive to all this negative weather talk (I really like to try & find the good in every situation when possible)..

As a newbie to chickens, I am so geeked that I have gotten ~ 4 dozen eggs from my 19 wk olds who started 3 wks ago and 1 1/2 dozen from the FBCMs that are about 4 wks older!!

Now THAT is cool stuff! And they are YUMMY!

Beautiful eggs!!
Hi Forum!

I am brand new here, my first post! I am moving back to the great state of Michigan (YES!) and will be doing a backyard homestead of sorts on 10 acres in Oceloa Twp. Is there anyone here that is in that area? I've talked to 2 Twp Officials and they are contradict each other as to whether or not I could have chickens. Basically it was decided that if I get a complaint, the chickens or whatever else I have would be taken immediately. Not cool considering I bought 10 acres as it qualifies as farmland.

So... my once dream property seems to be limited. Has anyone else dealt with hostility about backyard homesteading or chicken raising?

Today was busy. I started a crock of sauerkraut from five pounds of garden cabbage and another of four pounds of cucumbers, lacto-fermented pickles. Luckily I had some freshly fermented ACV on hand to give the cucumbers a boost. Both will ferment for a few weeks. The cucumbers weren't mine though, because mine didn't produce enough this year. I bought them from Heidi's, our local farmer's market.

Oh and that's a pullet egg my son found today from Pepper, my BO/EE mix. Her first egg. Will be interesting to see how the color works out on future eggs. The larger egg next to it is from her mom.
Very nice pic. I love the pullet egg. I tried to make sauerkraut last year .... the basement room I did it in still smells like

Welcome, you would think 10 acres would be enough, however, you never know

MYGOSH, Kimmie, I hope they are OK< what happened??

You've got that right! Winter is terrible. Especially when your coop/barn doesn't have electricity and you have to deal with tons of frozen water.
any way you can run and extension cord?
our various pepper varieties seem to be doing well - plenty of green tomatoes & tall sunflowers. basil growing good, beans not so good - & the weeds have grown better than anything I intentionally planted
still hoping for peppers. rabits keep eating all the leaves off my sweet potatoes, tomatoes doing well but every time I see one almost red I check it and something has eaten all but the shell,

lots of butterflys in the yard and a bunch of youg roosters jumping over each other and bumping chests, even some I was sure were female, good thing we didn't get meat pirds at 2 and 1/2 moths, the roosters are starting to feel their oats.

any one know if Kimmie's grand kids are OK?

Oh yeah. My basil is doing GREAT! (& the weeds, too...). But my pepper plants are easily 1/3 their normal size at this point. Not too mention have only been able to harvest a few Hungarian hot so far...

I am probably gonna have to hit the farmers market in order to get enough decent beans to blanche & freeze this year. Think I am ok on canned from last year.
