Mom2, I have no idea but that happened here once. Bryan thought he would scramble a couple for the dogs. He was pretty grossed out by it

This year I have been keeping track of how much sugar we have been using for the hummingbirds. So far we are up to 82 cups of sugar, and 32 of it has just been for the month of August. I have had to make it a gallon at a time for the 7 feeders we have.

I just love hummingbirds Laura!
I have four that visit me every morning and every evening just before dark- however, there is one we call the BOMBER- he comes and chases all of them away. The four that come here are a family and I have watched the little babies grow and perfect their flying. THE BOMBER has to be an odd-man out male who wants my yard of trumpet vine and honeysuckle to be his.

When he is attacking and chasing he reminds me of a pendulum- and he zips through the air and up and down just like one would swing.

They can be territorial. I love watching them too but there is no possible way to count how many I have

I know they are gearing up for the flight south soon. I hate to see them go.

Wow, HH, that's amazing! Thanks for posting that photo; I'll be sure to show my 6 year old daughter who loves them.

My hardware cloth is just regular old 1/2 inch hardware cloth. Thanks for the compliment, CG. We talked about having a coop christening party when it was done. I think I'm learning that - with all the tweaks - it may never really be done.

Talk about a sugar high! That's CRAZY and I'm jealous! I have a pair, A pair. But dang, that's awesome!

I once watched a pair have a fight about 5 inches in front of me. They made quite a noise and one tore the tail feathers right out of the other one before they went their separate ways.
