Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

I'd wait to integrate all the chicks at the same time too. I added my 12 week olds to my 21 week olds about a month ago and the older ladies still wont let the little ones out of the coop. Luckily half of the younger ones are jersey giants so pretty soon they'll be big enough to hold their own.

I would take him if you would sell me that blue copper pullet too lol
lol I would have a hard time giving her up! I named the blue Stormie on the way home from CS

and the blue copper is Gemma

. I should get better pictures of them and the black copper which I named Marlee.

mlive.com/living/Grand-Rapids/ posted an article about the Chicken Ordinance that passed in 2010 and how it is not being enforced.
It says one person has gotten a fine of $150 and they still have their chickens!
There are 7 photos also taken on the 28th of Aug. and posted on Aug. 30th of a couple back yard chicken flocks in the city of Grand Rapids.
I hope that helps you on Tuesday!

if you click on the link above, then scroll down to the city of Grand Rapids new, then click on 'living' and then scroll down through the stories until you see the chicken story. It is about the 6th story in the living section.

one week left and something or someone stole 2 eggs out of Honeys nest!!. I have a feeling it was Chopper, the hog. Oh my, hope he doesn't find the others before hatching. Maybe I need to block her off somehow.

Not my "lucky plucky man", but i saved this guy from being thrown into a plastic sack and suffocated in a trunk. (Auction)
Are there any rules for chicken transport? Even if it's a meat bird, aren't there protective laws to prevent unnecessary cruelty?
Don't want to rile anyone, i just want to know what to say, if anything, if i ever see this happening again. It took real tears, double the buying price, and being laughed at to get this guy. :( I figure even if it ends up i can't keep him, a long walk to nowhere would be more kind.

It would seem like it could fall under a basic 'cruelty to animals' law. I bet the Humane Society could tell you. Their number is 453-8900 or the Animal Shelter at 632-7300.

Beautiful rooster!

Glad you saved him!

Hey, I am looking to purchase some Broody Hens. Maybe a pair that are friends so I can put them in a coop together to help hatch some eggs I'm collecting from some of my un-interested teenagers. My favorite rooster died suddenly last week and he happened to be doing a good job fertilizing eggs and I would really like to try and hatch some. He was very handsome and had a great personality. It was sad because he was only 6 months old and he died right next to me. I just can't bare to eat eggs I know are fertilized either. Please write me if you can help me. I live in Troy on South Blvd.

I can't help you, i'm in the same boat :( But i know how you feel, i hope someone can help you! You probably already know that they are still fertile for up to 10 days, and not to put in the fridge or get wet? If you put in the fridge warm by putting in cool room, plenty of tissue in case they sweat. Don't want to ruin them!

Sorry your intro had to be a sad one, hope you stay!
