Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Good morning Michigan. It has been way too long and I'm to far behind to catch up on posts. How is everyone?

While I was gone, I welcomed someone new to my family. Here is Allie, my new Goldendoodle. :)

and yes, I can picture her as a younger version with spaghetti in her hair.

It is great to be able to rescue and to rehome the unwanted dogs, I wish that I could.

Right now I seem to be stalled on rehoming an Iowa Blue trio, 2 beautiful pullets and a really flashy cockeral.

This is a beautiful start for someone wanting to help this recovering heritage homestead breed. Both pullets are near POL.
Do you have pics of the Iowa blues? I'm still a newbie and not familiar with that kind. I've never heard of the town your from, I will guess your pretty far from me then, I will look at a map later. The name sounds very pretty, so was mainly wondering what they look like.

So bummed, DH was suppose to be out of work by 10 or 11 so we could go to Fowl Festival and some darn machine broke and stuck there for a few more hrs. :'( Was looking forward to going. Guess I'll start looking at learning how to winterize my coop and run this weekend instead. On a good note, I did find a medium white egg broke in the poop tray this morning, I think it came from my white orphington(That's as close as i can figure out what she is) She is very large and I've been waiting mos for her to lay, the other to are RIR's that I'm still waiting on and I know it's not their eggs. Hopefully, she starts using the nest boxes real soon though. Have a great weekend!!

Well... yesterday was spent putting my jeep door back on. Again. Already rusting away, the tab of metal we originally put a bolt through had given way, and the bottom hinge pin is so corroded and thin, BUT don't dare try and take that hinge off, as it's barely hanging on as well. Jimmy rigging long enough metal straps to go into tiny places, and get them in place just right to bolt seems that it wouldn't turn into an event of pain in the butt proportions, but it can. Why is it I can smack together a coop, but can engineer simple peices of metal and bolts? Huh... ANYWAY, door is back on, lined up as much as possible given the rusting conditions... I think it is nearing time to get a new vehicle. But the engine is running so good! I need some front end suspension, but I can't even do that... rust. gotta love rust.

Anyway. Loner is hanging in there. He's a spaz when I get him out to hang out with me. It was quite fun teaching him to eat, and giving him little chick treats. Even funnier still when he went running across the kitchen counter ( i was kneeling down) and he flew across my shoulder, tried to stop... and didn't. Prefers to be on my shoulder, or high on my chest, under my chin, against my neck or in my hair. I hope to not have chick chit in there. Ick. Good thing I have running water.

Saw the biggest hawk I ever saw yesterday too. BIG thing. I think I could have taken off with my friends mini chi if it had been out. Yikes. Guess I am going to have to start being vigilant here as the leaves start to fall. Fall seems to be the worse time of year for me with hawks. Beautiful birds. Just go be beautiful some where else.

YOu can always hit it tomorrow too.

got all excited because i looked in the shelter area for the pullets that are growing out and saw an egg! WOO HOO! Maybe my BLRW started laying?! So I got the kiddy rake and pulled it out and floated it. Yeah. Not a new egg. Very very old egg. I'm probably lucky it didn't explode on me!

Well, the birds FINALLY have TRIPLE the run space :weee

DH was finally home when weather was cooperative & was able to get the hardware cloth buried around the perimeter of the new extension. I opened up a section of the original pen this morning after finishing a batch of salsa. I haven't been able to get the painting finished cuz I have been too busy canning, freezing, dehydrating. But that is simply aesthetics & if it doesn't get done til spring I shan't lose too much sleep.

Don't they look happy ??!! I know I AM :woot

Thank you, Opa!!!!!!
