Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Sadly almost everyone's 29 is much younger than my 29. Sure makes a feller wonder how it went so quickly.

Pressed another 8 gallons of apple cider today and put it in the freezer for use later this winter. The trees still have lots stof apples on them but I think I will probably shake them down pretty soon and carry them out back for the deer. An orchard is nice but you sure open yourself up to a lot of work. Pruning, winter spray, spring spray, repeated summer spray, fall harvesting, canning, dehydrating, pressing, ground clean up, and then start all over again in February.

The cooler weather and rain should be being the steelhead into the rivers and I am getting anxious to start fishing. I'm hoping to go on either Thursday or Friday but tomorrow I have surgery scheduled to remove a bursae from my elbow and I'm uncertain just how long the recuperating is going to be. I'm going to be upset if it is more that 2 days. I guess I could go and work the boat and the lures into the proper fish enticing position and then let David reel the fish in.

Opa good luck with your surgery. Hope you get some quality fishing time in.
If you really think ignoring winter won't work someone needs to give me a good kick to get started, I am really not ready.

I'm sure I could.
I'll bet with so many talented people here we could have several coop-raising parties.
That sounds like Fun!

I'm in!

And for all those wishing to be 29 again, it's easy...I stopped "time" on my 29th, so every year it's 29 again! and Still!

I think my grandkids are on to me though.

We have raised 9 chickens for a friend. Not even a year old an only 4 r left. We lost the only Roo, Spice to unknown causes a few months back. Lost Biscuit to a dog. Peanut disappeared. Now the real problem: Weasel/minks. We lost 2 more to that. Tiny and Peck. Peck we found today, deheaded. Horrible sight we are all sad, I raised her as a chick! Peep, Blackie,Cinnamon and S'mores are the remainders. Peep, is my profile pic and is just important to me. Blackie is Peeps best friend. I really hope our friend will let us have All 4, or at least 2.

His do u get rid if weasels/minks? Ok thanks!

I'm still drooling over that new coop! My coop addition hasn't happened yet, and the weather is't going to impove either. Still have apples to process and winterizing to do, and firewood too.... Mary
I would like to think that there are enough of us on this thread that we can offer a hand to each other when needed. And if asked.

You can't get rid of predators, kill one and another takes its place. All you can do is protect your chickens when most predators are the most active and dangerous. For mink & weasels I think that's night time. Predator proof your coop and lock them in at night. Against weasels that means covering every "hole" with 1/2" (at the largest) hardware cloth. Sorry for your loss.

I used one of the birds we processed last weekend and made soup Sunday. Jydging by the fact that I had to blockade the kitchen just to get a bowl set aside for just 1 work lunch this week, it was a dashing success.

Now, I am sitting at Midway airport, awaiting my bi-monthly flight to NYC for my latest check up at Columbia University Medical Center. So far, the trial drug has worked better than I ever expected. Here's to hopibg it can eventually lessen the bone pain. :)

recovery. You'll be fishing in no time, although it looks a lil cold and rainy the next week coming up. Probably great for fishing.
