Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Well Farmerboy and Evermystique I'm not feeling so bad now. I have 60 girls and have been getting 3 eggs! Which was a great time to worm them but now I'm thinking I won't have any for my customers.

I am very frustrated with weather at this point. I have a new small coop that has been sitting empty all of October. It needs to be caulked as there are a few spots on the high end of the roof where rain blows in and drips all the way down the slope of the roof. So one side ends up with the floor wet. We have not had a day all of October where things dried out enough to caulk it. My poor little birds are cooped up in a tiny windowless summer coop now with snow outside. I'm thinking I may be have to drag out a blow dryer and just dry those spots.

I also ended up with 10 more birds than I wanted to go into winter with. Some of the small roosters will go to my brother to butcher although I'm not sure how much he will get out of a bantam. I have one big roo I'm not sure about. He (Fred) is super friendly and nice to me but has taken over head rooster position is just a bully to the other roosters. It is so hard for me to watch our once head rooster (Mr. Fuzzy) lose his position. Mr. Fuzzy had an eye infection that after talking to the vet I did not treat as most do not require antibiotics I was told. Well, whatever it was affected his sight and that has resulted in his losing his head rooster position. So I feel a bit responsible. So I'm not sure what to do about Fred and I go out of my way to give Mr. Fuzzy treats.

Happy Veterans Day to everyone

Happy Veterans day.
I was planning on butchering my 3 meat birds in a couple weeks. Then found out I can take them to canton and have them dome for a couple bucks. I figure it will cost me that much in propane/water just to heat a scalding pot.Plus the time and cold out. I plan on getting 10 in the spring so I may decide to do those myself.
Where do you go in Canton? I took mine to Munsel's in Howell but that is a pretty long drive from here.

Thanks to all the veterans for your selfless service for our freedoms! Because of you, we live our lives as we choose!

I have 29 hens. Was getting two eggs every other day, Then down to one. I didnt get my egg yesterday, so I may be down to none! One is still in hard molt. Looks like she's ready for the stew pot. And from feathers in the coop, looks like some are starting their molt. It will be awhile before I get eggs. Don't remember oi being so bad last year.

Typing with one hand takes too long, hope all enjoy your day

Raz actually haven't been there yet. Was getting info on lambs for my boss and came across them. Another co-worker said his elderly aunt wanted fresh hen that she could pick out. So I found Boyer's and they said they have Live you can choose from and that they do processing of your own. It was either 2.20 or 2.50 She said call and they would let me know what day their processing and no min. I think Michigan ave and Denton. Where in Howell do you go not sure which would be closer. I plan on getting a lamb it was $3 lb 50lb and over under 50lb $ 4 includes processing. If anyone knows of a better value please let me know.

no egg yesterday.

Canton is much closer to me. I'll keep them in mind.
Although I still recommend Munsel's if you are in that area. They are really great people.
