Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Raz, it was Wimpy from Popeye that said, "Why put off tomorrow what you can put off today?"

It is always nice to have visits from those who are too busy or no longer inclined to come by often - there does get to be a limit on how much time each of us has to spend online, and different groups with different agendas that do not always attract everyone's attention. It can also be fun to spend some time on threads with folks outside of Michigan. Due to time limitations, not every person will get a response every time they post, but I know I enjoy hearing about how things are going, so if anyone is lurking please let us know how you are! This thread runs pretty fast, and sometimes just a week or two away may be too many pages to catch up on (Like John in the summer, you are a busy guy!).

Still COLD here - either my thermometer is stuck or it has been 3 degrees for the last 2 days. Pretty sure it is just cold.

LOL. I'm stubborn too and post away anyway! I could point out lots of my posts even lately that didn't even get a shred of answer; but that's ok. Hard to figure sometimes what's going to be the topic of the week....

This week it's temps and goats :p Which i got nothing on except that it sure IS cold :)

I try to post to everyone, even if it's just to toss out possibilities. Sometimes you don't always know what little bit will help! But if i've missed anyone i'm sorry. I might not have had anything useful for you; but i do read every post!

I enjoy reading several forums on BYC and participating. If I don't feel I have anything worthwhile to add usually I will only read. I wish I had more time as well because sometimes it is just plain good clean fun! It's educational, and social. As with any social group there are differences. And to those I say Viva La Difference! So for those that may feel forgotten at times, it's not anyone trying to be rude or anything like that. I think people just have so much going on these days it is really challenging to accomplish it all and not miss someone or something. I try to appreciate people for their difference and talents. I think that it's usually the differences that make us notice others in the first place.

Opa, best wishes and safe travels.

Congratulations to all who received BYC awards!

A mess of people are missing over the last few years! I'm going to ask Laura if she's going again even though she has no flock. I hope so, we miss her. I bet there's a bunch of "watchers" that never post. As I recall one of them owes me some hens&chicks

Is that me? I could well have done it. No, wait! I have not had any of those plants for several years. I'm not guilty. Slow sure.

I find it very difficult to keep up with these very long ongoing threads...so I mostly just read...and really do appreciate the people who seem to be able to keep up with all the conversation, and respond to most posts.

If I post a question and it doesn't get answered, I understand that things can get lost in the deluge of chatter, and just repost, no big deal.
It's nice to read about people in our state, living thru similar situations.

I consider myself fairly new to BYC and I was completely intimidated by the MI thread when I found it but it turned out to be comparable to how I've been treated in other threads on BYC and the backyard herd forum, with a touch of occasional condescension from certain members. I did go to Chickenstock last year, for the first time, and it was okay. There was the sense that everyone already knew everyone and they kind of kept to their groups but I'm antisocial in general so it should be no surprise that I would see that or feel that way. Not sure I would go again. We'll see.

ETA: It's the same on almost any established forum I've ever been on though. It's hard for a newcomer to integrate into an established and tight-knit group without almost always and forever being something of an outsider.

LadyR, I can appreciate your feeling that way. My DSO is pretty much the same in many aspects. He'd rather stay at home and enjoy the day there than to go almost anywhere. He's a very good guy though, a real softie on the inside. I on the other hand am more social, love getting together with old friends, meeting new people and doing new things and also a softie on the inside and outside. They say opposites attract.

Today I'm calling a gal to see if she wants a 4 month old Blue Copper Maran Roo. If not it's here for the taking. Very beautiful just no room since it was supposed to be a hen. So much for 100% guaranteed hen sexed chicks, ha ha! I won't mention the source since a few people on BYC buy there. Plus the source is really nice - just human - and not perfect.

People who guarantee sex of chicks should be accountable. Unfortunately some of them are not responsible. I got burned that way with my first chick purchase. At least five of twelve hens crowed and did other rooster things. I was so gullible, I even returned the roos, believing they would be replaced with hens of a similar age and breed. As I said ......... s l o w.
