Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Happy New Year,

This is the only forum I have ever joined or posted on...I don't do FB, Twitter, yada, yada....just BYC.

My Spazzie (my avatar) is just not right. I have had her in the house 12/30. She wouldn't come of the roost, eat or drink. Had the runs; she seems to be eating & drinking better today...don't see any mites, worms etc. no signs of a cold. Don't want to put her back out quite yet with the subzero temps forecast...she's my baby :(

My only forum as well, BYC but I follow several threads. This is my favorite.

I hope she's ok preciouskitty. :hugs

Seeing as how we are really Canadians, eh?

What is the last thing a Newfie says before he dies?
"Hold my beer and watch this!"

I don't know much about sociology. I had one semester and made the professor cry when during a discussion I said "An armed society is a polite society".

Love it!

Congrats to you award winners.

Love the Polish. I've only had to thaw out two Polish crests so far this winter.

I want to pack up and move....it never got ubove -2 today and it's already -21 tonight and we are being warned it will be colder next Monday and Tuesday. My poor birds. I am trying to be positive but it's getting hard this winter.

Hello! :)

I put a heat lamp in the coop today for the very first time ever in my 5 years of chickens and I'm having all sorts of angst about it. I know all the reasons why you shouldn't - I've shared that information with others myself even. It's just that it's been so very bitter cold and my two bantams were looking really bad. I keep going out there making sure it's still secured and whatnot, but I still feel guilty about it, lol. Of course, I'd feel guilty about not heating too, so there you go. ;)

How is everyone? Hope y'all had a great Christmas/New Year.

A is not even close enough to U to claim as a typo. It must be really, really cold up there.

Welcome back. We were just talking about how we miss some of friends.

I think a lot of us are concerned about chicken-sicles. All I can say is if anyone decides to add some heat to the coop, just make sure that it is very secure and can't cause any problems.

Thanks! I have a hard time keeping up with these long threads, so I stop by to read a bit every few weeks and then usually don't have anything to add to the conversation so I don't, lol. I'll try to remember my manners and say hi next time. ;)

I've got it secured three ways, so it's not coming down, lol. If you will allow for a little personification, I think my hens look way happier with the lamp. ;) They look at peace and relaxed versus all tight in a frantic ball of trying to stay warm. I'm 60/40 right now as far as if this was a good idea or not, lol.

I have to say I am considering this, my Cream Legbars look miserable, everyone else seems to be hanging in there OK though. High today was 0, and it felt bitter with the north wind - much colder than yesterday's 3.

Glad to see you stop in.

I had to trim my 2 Blue Ameraucana bantams' beaks too. When I got them thier beaks and nails were way long... luckily they were really tame so it wasn't much fuss. They really were surprisingly tame considering they had been raised in grow out pens and hadn't been handled at all until I got them. One of them died for seemingly no reason. I quarantined the survivor for 4 weeks and she lived in my house during that time. Sweet bird, loved to be held. Anyways, I have since rehomed her to a nice lady who had been looking for a blue ameraucana bantam for her small flock.
Polish 2 was really still. Then when I had to file her beak with this Pedi Paws thing I think it was called. Anyways, it made a whirring sound, good girl hardly flinched.
