Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

I saw that sebright on cl!

Well my chickens are tired of being cooped up cause of weather. Im too from lapeer and looking at approximately 8 inchs of the white stuff. I felt bad for all my bantams so I let them out to run all over the barn and of course they are super excited! They made a mad dash to the hay mound to lay eggs and eat hay and to poop everywhere! Lol
I cant wait till it warms up. My birds r so bored and I know they are ready for grass and bugs again.

Gary the hawk is back for more sparrow snacks. He was here a few days ago. There was about 2 months that I didn't see him.

If I was were closer, I would pull you out PK. Can you throw some scratch or corn under the drive wheels for traction?

Thanks, RaZ!
All set.....Our pet sitter came & helped...plus he got some eggs so he's happy!

Oh...I THINK Spazzie is getting better....eating, talking, picking at the dog right now...tail back up (& even one pretty normal dropping)....

Hey there...Haven't been on in a long time....I am going to add a couple of ducks this spring. Is there a breeder or someone in the Davison area (or nearby the Genesee County) that is able to get them in the next couple of months? I am hoping to get some soon to keep inside with the heat lamp, until it's warm enough to keep outside. Thank you!!!!

Hi there
Well TSC chick days is right around the corner. Davison store will be doing baby duckies and chicks like us here in Lapeer. Our hatchery we buy from is Townline and like always... runner ducks, pekins, rouan mallards, and cambells and mixs of mallards and swedish here n there.

Spike a head of lettuce or cabbage and hang it from a cord for them to peck at.
You can also sprout some seeds for them.

Like 1muttsfan said (and I neglected to mention) use seeds that have not been treated with pesticides.
I'm trying corn, BOSS and seeds from the bird food sack.

Sure am glad that we plowed out this morning or we'd really have some snow to deal with. The first round of snow dumped close to 8" and with the drifts we had places over 12" We had just came in at noon when the snow started up again and we now have an additional 4".

Three years ago when I purchased this snowblower, my son David stated he didn't think I needed to waste my money on it as he has a snowplow on his truck. I bought it anyway and usually have our place cleared out before he can get here. Also the path from the house to the chicken coop would have to be shoveled by hand were it not for the snowblower. Now as luck would have it his snowplow is down and the part he needs has been backordered. So tomorrow after I get us dug out again I have to take it to his house to tackle the monumental drifts that choke his long drive.

The birds have been laying well and hopefully this coming cold snap won't alter than too much. I regretted having to cull so many birds last month but the egg production is actually higher than it had been. I know the birds I culled were nearing the end of their egg laying days and I think that the lessened competition has been beneficial.

And it just keeps coming.....

I've shoveled the chicken run 3 times. I'm done. Even tho it still keeps coming down, I can't face shoveling again! Nice big bowl of chilli on the stove. Can't wait till I dig in!

Hi Angela!! Nice to see you again!

Love looking at he snow covered ground and trees, but NOT liking the wind and below 0 temps that are on the way! That is Buffy, the one that was being broody. With the cold temps coming I blocked off the "sick bay" part of the coop where she was in that nest box to encourage her to roost with the others. Looks like it worked! Good thing to, as 2 more girls are getting ready to lay again!! They are squatting for me!! Yeah! That only leaves 2 to start laying. I'm sure Buffy will now get back to laying after the cold snap!

We are supposed to get about 12 inches here. I've been trying to keep the front of the coop doors cleaned but I'm afraid I'll have plenty of shoveling to do after the winds tonight!

Beautiful pics!! Yes, it's beautifu to look at. I really didn't mind being outside today. Shoveling was getting a bit much on the back, tho. Now, I know I'm not going to like the sub zero wind chill tomorrow!

Yep, as Opa said, we have already had 12+" here in Howell. Latest forecast now saying we could see upwards of 18". Based on the radar, I'm thinking its a distinct possibility. Rule here is I am not allowed to even think about trying to go to work if our school district closes (as it virtually NEVER does). It is closed. Not that I would be able to get out of our driveway anyway. Plow guy was here this morning, but you can't even tell...(my drive is just under 1/2 mile). Plus, once the winds start, drifts will make it even worse.

At least if work doesn't shutdown, I have my computer & can easily telework....

Stay safe & warm, all :)
