Can we go back to the "Die winter! DIE!" now?

I am so done with this. I can't wait till I can complain about how dangnabbit hot it is.

I love those gloves. I just did scarves fro the boys. Working on a multitonal purple for me this evening. I am using a thick plastic hook and thick and quick yarn. Hey.. I get discounts at work. I think it's lion brand and it is so very very soft and warm. By munchkins love theirs scarves.

My birds are enjoying the sunshine and the paths. I am sure they'd love it more if some of that foriegn green matter were to return.
Nova, I'm kind of excited we had a normal winter. Maybe we'll see a gorgeous spring with all the green growth and less bugs that were killed off by the stellar cold we've had. My only concern is Maple this year. I'll have to haul my sap wearing snowshoes! Should be a few weeks and I'll be tapping already.

I use them for the rabbits, chickens, and goats but have never had that. I have had green algae in the summer. It may be the water supply with the heater helping it to grow. Why, in home systems that utilize shallow wells with bladder tanks the "black scum" is fairly common adhering to the rubber liner. In some cases, later on, when you open high volume faucets, like a tub, it may come out and is gross looking. Jacuzzi type tubs are notorious for this as the water sets in the pipes and black scum forms. Check your water system.

I put a few older (pre-1980) pennies in my waterers this fall and didn't have ANY algae issues after that. Something about the copper and algae......I think that it's a common thing for birdbaths as well?

While no major snowfall is in the immediate forecast, arctic temperatures are. Sub zero temperatures accompanied by wind will be creating dangerously low wind chill. Caution needs to be taken when outdoors. While the snow holds much beauty it also contains much danger, so exercise caution when outdoors. And never turn your back on a snowman.

Maah and Lady you both know you want to hatch.. dust those bators off and get started..

I put my eggs in lockdown, and found  2 unfertile eggs out of 20.. 17 look pretty good and 1 looks iffy so i put it in anyways and wrote dud on it just in case..

My friend has a brahma rooster and her hens are australorp, and she has buff and red orphingtons.. do you think if i hatch chicks from egg with this mix, if i would have decent

Instigator! :) LOL. Get your tums & wine ready hun & good luck with your hatch.

I hatched a brahma/australorp cross last summer. (Well, it was supposed to be a clutch of white silkie babies but we had a couple over ambitious ladies that snuck their babies under the broody & I didn't notice right away). Nice looking hen I got from it, black feathers, light feathering on the legs, with a bit of white feathers mixed in the face/neck. Good brown layer & not too bad in size.

Just placed an order for 1 dozen hatching eggs from My Pet Chicken. Delivery date TBD! Supply, roosters and hens on strike and not yet active due to weather conditions. DIE WINTER DIE! Ugh! Would someone please show me a tuplip on Valentines day!

That is very possible. I honestly don't know the depth of this well. My husband was here for all the inspections and such when we moved. I was not. I'll have to look into it. The water in the house doesn't usually come out funky but we use all the faucets frequently. The outdoor hydrant however, where I get the chicken's water, does. It's all on the same system but the hydrant does put out a lot more water than any of the indoor faucets and I typically only use it once a day, in the morning. I wish we had a jacuzzi! :p

I got a beautiful buff hen with muffs and beard, and a beautiful white hen :) Just for color variety - I have six of the "partridge" hens already. I really want a blue/gray but don't know if they'll get odd colors inl
Is this the trick? If I could get a buff or white bantam ee chick, I'd do it in a minute. With the color spectrum of easter eggers, I've been reluctant. Thanks for the info.

Opa, the carnivorous snowman cracked me up.

Don't know, worked last year, but they only had a few over the season. I called Townline and the FF does not have chicks ordered (from what he saw) for that week and they are already sold out for next week. I am going to order from them directly (I am in Zeeland) and just get some started :)

@Opa

"DIE winter, DIE". Please repost every time it snows and/or sub zero temps (was gonna say any day we don't reach freezing...but long range, that would mean posting daily)

Loved the pic with "need I say more?"...nope, think it summed it up.

Snowman pic above ...TOO FUNNY :D

Needed a laugh...horrid headache again; think I have a sinus infection & slight fever. :( Exam in morning (have done well enough thus far that I can get like a 60/100 & still pass, but don't want to shoot THAT low ;)). Flight doesn't get in til 9pm tomorrow, so won't be home til ~1030pm. This has been a LONG two weeks..

Lady- I use a heated dog waterer in one of my pens and have the same problem, I think its algae. Soaking in bleach water should slow it down for a little while, I'm waiting for it to warm up a little first.
