Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Congrats @RaZ !

Please help me. Snow has gotten inside my barn. Into my duck house. :( It is quite damp. ~4-5 sq ft available for each bird. And they also have a Day Pen where the food & water is located. I've been using Sweet PDZ, gentle raking and then adding more dry straw atop the damp. So today, seeing that while this is really going to provide me with some beyond excellent mulch for my gardens, it really is not doing right by my ducks. So I bought Pelletized Softwood Bedding and tossed it down thickly and dry.

The directions say to add water before using?! Will this help or hinder? Please help. Thank you, Holly

I was planning on getting buff orpingtons, silver laced wydonettes, and maybe an amber link...but your welsummers are ADORABLE! Might have to switch that last one out! ; )
I LOVE LOVE LOVE my amber links. they lay quite a bit darker than my other brown layers (not as dark as my marans though). I am planning on getting a few more this spring.

If your objective is to help get rid of the dampness then use the bedding material dry and let it absorb the moisture from duck house.

I'm going to get a few amberlinks this year....best way for me to darken my basket...I hear they are great layers.

Just finished cleaning out the pullet coop. Had 2 bales of pine shavings, and that's what that coop needs to refill. Talk about GROSS! I looked it over and I think I know how to fix it to add a poop board and not lose any of the useable floor space. Just need some lumber. Lol

Fuzzy, I so want turkeys also! Looks like we are inheriting another members dozen, or so, layer flock so space will be a premium now. I know a guy that will give me free goats, a pig, and a gaggle of geese. I need to say NO (and will). I'm getting over-run and this winter has proven how dedicated you can be.

Anyway, I just received my 2014 Maple Syrup Catalog and wanted to re-post again this year: www.sugarbushsupplies.com

They are in Mason, MI Good prices for the 'backyard syrup maker".

Maple/Honey Mead here we go!
I used to live right down the street from Sugar Bush in Mason :)
