Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

A sign of spring coming? Even with a winter storm watch?

Does anyone use the armanda layer feed from FFH. Feelings on this feed.

I use all of their products. My girls lay just fine with it. I only buy Purina when there's a good sale. I prefer supporting Michigan made products. Purina is so commercial making people believe they need all the stuff in it. My babies have grown great on Armada grains.

One of my ducklings was missing this morning when I went to the barn to check on them. It smells like skunk outside, so I'm wondering if my brooder wasn't as predator proof as I thought. What I don't get is that it's in the same room as the adult ducks and they look fine. There didn't seem to be anything disturbed in the room either.

How many more do they have? Maybe I could help?
She had several more. Said she had some in the green house too. She's in Perry. Right along I 69 If you are interested, let me know. I have her phone # and address

Hard to believe that this beautiful day has a winter weather advisory behind it! Just love this warmer weather! The chickens are out enjoying it. I was too! lol

sigh.

It seems all that winter weather is heading towards the south. The first day of Spring (the 20th) is predicted to be about 40 degrees. I can't believe the 10-day forecast is still showing the temperature in the 20s, though!

Here's to a happy Tuesday...

Everybody else:
Just wanted to poll y'all. Who sells at Farmer's Markets?
I do. I sell eggs, hand spun yarns and miscellaneous things from the "farm". Last year I dug up hundreds of daffodil bulbs and sold some. This year I hope to sell knitted kitties and feed sack bags too. I'm there almost every Saturday.

Except that our local dairy farm across the road has been spreading manure all winter and I mean ALL winter. I'm a little concerned about run-off with the melting. The air is almost unbearably putrid outside. Much of the solid waste has blown into our yard and can be seen wherever there is a depression in the snow, like footprints, paths and drifts. The sandhill cranes have returned to their nesting site in the kettle on the other side of the field. I don't know what goodies they eat from the kettle pond but there could be a die-off this spring and that would be unfortunate.

@ladyrsanti
You know, now that you mention it, I do recall you stating that the dairy farmer has been doing this all winter. I guess we are fortunate that the farmer here doesn't do this more than once or twice before planting. As it is somewhat warm, I have the windows cracked & heat off to get some fresh air in the house. Luckily the winds are pretty much calm, but I have noted while outside with the VERY happy free ranging chickens, I do get quite a whiff of the manure!

Boy are the birds happy. I just wish those PRs would quit being so mean to Spazzie (but I know I'm lucky that the majority of them are being nice since she has been stuck in the house away from the flock for 3 months! And she does seem to be enjoying herself out there). Roosters are behaving at the moment, too. Of course, that is cuz they are keeping their distance. CanNOT wait til I can utilize my "re-integration" space & get everyone out of the house for good.

Oh, the PR that ripped her toenail off 2 days ago seems fine (I told her it was karma for being so mean to Spaz, I'm sure she understood what I was saying....;))

I hope my earlier posts weren't taken as a condemnation of vets but was merely what seems best for me. They provide a very valuable service. I took Granny's bichon to be euthanized a few years and was very touched by the solemn respect afforded to me and the animal.
