Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

As a newbie, I'm following the progress posts from those of you who are hatching eggs. That sounds like it's quite tricky. I don't know if I would try it.

We are trying it for the first time in a Farm Innovators circulating air /auto turner incubator. I know nothing fancy at all but affordable.
It is similar design to Little Giant and holds up to 40 chicken eggs. We started with 21, yesterday was day 14 and we have what looks like 17 growing. We are reading lots about hatching through others posts. Still, it is nerve wrecking! Lockdown is Sunday...the last 3 days to hatch seem most critical for consistant temps and humidity the entire process. I went into this first attempt expecting the worst and hope will experience better when all over. I am sure I will thread babble when they start to hatch, please bear with me :) thanks!

or.....maybe not :/

The Ag Commissioner meeting is one (1) week from today. It looks like they have new, different language within the Site Selection GAAMP. What is being presented is NOT what we commented on last month. This new one has no public comment period at all.

Pretty underhanded politics if you ask me.

Read more about how politics are taking away our rights to farm.

Pictures to come eventually. My doe brought forth two doelings and one buckling into the world! The little boy looks just like his father. One of the girls looks just like her mother, too. All are doing good, have nursed and are keeping warm under heat lamps!

Three babies! Congrats, Stacykins - are you waiting for more? Is your town the happening place this weekend? My BIL is headed up tomorrow for the Robotics and so is my DH for knife making. However, the group my hubby is with didn't plan ahead and can't find a room so they are taking sleeping bags to camp out on someone's floor.

And speaking of goats.. Silly how is your huge mama goat?

Raz - I have really enjoyed reading Wendy's articles. Thanks to you and her for keeping us up to date on what is happening. Again it amazes me that up here in the north we hear so little.

I hate the cold but I guess I have acclimated because it was -12 this morning and it really didn't feel all that bad. I made it through chores without having cold fingers.

Last night I made soup and had a ham bone with lots left on it that I threw out to the birds to peck at. I wasn't thinking I guess because shortly there after Titus was let out and showed up to the door with the ham bone ready to bring it back inside with him. Unhappy puppy when I took it away.

Congrats on the safe arrival of your kids Stacykins!!! Would love to see some photos of the new arrivals :)

Wondering if any of the regulars on here live near me (Calhoun County) and if anyone is a breeder/hatcher of Showgirls (my hubby is in love with these peculiar looking chickens) and I'd like to know if they're hardy in these crazy weather patterns?

I see many on here seem to know each other quite well, did you meet at previous years Chickenstock?!? I can't wait for winter to be over and meet some fellow chicken lovers from surrounding areas. Any help on date, location and what to expect for a first time attendee at Chickenstock or local swaps/meets would be appreciated. I guess this winter has me feeling a bit shut-in and lonely, lol.
