Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

There was a pretty bad thunderstorm, wasn't there?

Thank you all so much for your advice!!! I don't even know what I would do if there weren't so many awesome people out there to help me. :)

I may be a little confused on the new law that passed about chickens.. (We are getting them next year regardless) Our coop will dwfinw be 250+ feet from the nearest house as we have 2 acres but there is a small subdivision near us and we are pretty close to 13 houses.. What is the beat way to figure out how many homes withina 1/8 of a mile of us? And if we have our chickens and get a visit from the city what should we expect (fees, etc) I'm considered city of Saginaw but I live in the city of Zilwaukee with a farm field to the right of my property and across the street (Neither owned by us).

Thanks for all the advice!! Hopefully everyone made it through the storms last night okay!!

And how noisy are chickens

My hops surprised me this year. Last year they didn't do much but yeah, this year they shot up out of the ground and I thought I had kudzu on my hands.

We had a strange storm (microburst type) come through yesterday while at the school coaching robotics. Our meetings are in a small back room that has two heavy metal doors and no windows. All of the sudden we could hear what sounded like wind/thunder/jet plane/something muffled and loud outside and one of the doors flew open and slammed shut with force. The kids were freaked out, thought someone tried to come into the building. When we left a while later, we found some heavy weighted signs were knocked over in the parking lot and it looked like it poured rain. Nothing else was amiss.

Sites like this one are great tools for such things: http://www.freemaptools.com/measure-distance.htm

Thank you so much! So do I just do a circle with my home in the middle and see how many homes.. If its below 13 am I okay?

type in your address, change it to satellite image, click on your house or your coop or barn (or wherever your "facility" will be) and then click on a neighboring house and it will tell you the miles or yards (whichever you choose). You want less than 13 under .125 miles or about 83 yards for the nearest house. Hope that's not too confusing.

I have been busy while I have been away ;).

Laying hen:
We got a black tailed white Japanese bantam named Yuki. (Pic wont upload :( )

No pics are uploading : !!

The new chicks:

Anyways, I just got an Olive Egger chick I named Olive. She has a few little feathers on her feet since she's a marans cross :D

I also got another wc black polish bantam I named Holly. Holly is loud.

I got a buff? Silkie named Buffy. I really hope she's a buff, I don't want another white!

Finally, the last chick is a EE named Cappuccino, in memory of our last EE Mocha. She looks just like Mocha when he was a chick!
