Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

I too plan on making my new coop as showy as possible. I have been eying the ones being sold on CL in casnovia. Mine will be on a flatbed trailer in case it needs be moved. He has playhouses for around $700, i am wondering if i donate some material and ask for the type of windows in his hunting blind version? ($400) The playhouse is 6x6 with a 6x3 porch. One flatbed is ready but tall, or i am eying a junk popup trailer and trying to figure out how to build a support base to go above the wheel wells? Both are 6x8, only a foot shy.

I would not even bother to reply to that comment. It is either a troll or someone looking to argue.

People can also be trapped in a location with no way to move to a better area. That is my situation here. I stuck in this crummy city.

This may be the workable solution in some cases, but as the exotic pet owners and democrats have discovered, the serious pitfalls to this approach include allowing the "other side" to dictate reality. A fallacy repeated too many times without rebuke becomes the generally accepted "truth". The exotic pet owners lost the battle before they realized it was a war by ignoring PETA's and others' trolling. In answering a troll, especially online, the goal is to inform the gullible, not engage the troll.

That is also one of the states we've considered too Lady...

You can bet that if I had to lose what I have case some jerk didn't like what I was doing in my own yard....... I would become "that" neighbor from hell!

I sort of became that neighbor. We lived in a small town, very small but it thought it was part of the big town, thought it was suburbia. Samaria, MI if you've ever been there. I designed their signs so give them a nod if you pass through.

Anyway. Our neighbor got us cited for blight for a wood pile. We'd refurbished our deck and were using the old untreated 2 x 4's to make raised beds in our veggie garden. But the pile of wood offended my neighbor's sensitive aesthetics and she called the township on us without ever discussing the issue or even mentioning it to us. Well, Bedford Township (where Samaria is located) is almost famous for its leaf burning in the fall. You could probably see it from space if you were ever privy to the October satellite images. It's bad. But as loose as their burning laws are regarding leaf burning, grass clippings are NEVER to be burned and my neighbor, who mowed her 1/4 acre twice a week, burned her green grass clippings every time. That annoyed me for years but I'm not really a mean person so I didn't report her... not until she reported me for the wood pile. Fire department came out and everything. Made her put it out and fined her.

Unfortunately, she tried her best to make my life a living hell every day after that, even calling the township on us for blight months after we moved out. But the whole ordeal left me so mentally drained that I think I'm still dealing with the anxiety she created. I'm very grateful that so far my new neighbors seem like great people and hope that the fact that several families in our adjacent subdivision have chickens will help keep things down to earth.

No kits from my bunny. Now, trying to get her to be nice to my other bunny. Had them separated for a few days and then let them out together. Did not go well. Tried a couple of other times and still not pretty. So now I'm keeping them separated for a couple of weeks now. Going to try this week to see how they do. They lie next to each other with the fencing in between them just fine ! Lol
Typical behavior. I have a friend that keeps up to 12 in one pen. She lets them estabish a pecking order I guess. Mine are all separated. Even Momma's will let the babies know when it's time to move on. Best to just go with the flow.

My good friend Vera always says never get into a stinking contest with a skunk. You will both end up stinking, and the skunk won't mind.
Normally I'd agree with your friend and a lot of people warned me with that same saying but that day felt SOOOO good and she did mind, she minded a lot. At least I got a shot in. Our neighbor before her dumped round-up on our maple trees because they dropped leaves on her yard in the fall, seriously, and though I called the police, she used her terminal cancer as an excuse not to prosecute and we let her off. That was after her hired lawn guy completely took out some of our bushes too. She asked if he could trim some of the branches that hung over the property line. We went out of town for a day and came home to a barren mess of stumps. I let her do that too because I'm a wimp. So it felt good to engage the skunk that one time.

I was tired of being walked on.

Yesterday I started moving the manure/bedding piles that were put in the middle of everything during the winter when I cleaned out the coops. I'll dump everything on the garden when I get it all loaded into the trailer. Instead of building a new coop for turkeys DH has found a shed that he plans on moving. I will also be putting up new fencing this week to separate out some breeds I want to collect eggs from. I also want to start painting coops. It's almost warm enough. Hopefully this week will be an improvement in the weather.

All the new babies are doing well. They are all the same age but for some reason 13 guineas are SO much cleaner than 2 ducks! I've decided that's why baby ducklings are so cute....there is no way you would want to put up with the mess if they weren't. I had one guinea that had a bad leg and i band aided him. This morning he had gotten out of the band aid and I couldn't really tell for sure which one it was, they were all walking so well.

I also determined we are not good dog parents, our dog had his first bath last night, and he is over a year old! He made friends with the piglets and was playing through the fence while rolling in the mud to get close to them. They all seemed to have a great time but he was disgusting! He did wonderful in the bath! He is used to climbing in the tub already. After someone takes a shower he climbs in to lick it out.

And I finally see some green in the back field!
