Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Opa I love this time of year for the same reason. I am very light sensitive and have a horrible time getting up if it is dark, so it is wonderful to roll out of bed at 6 with no help from an alarm. I'm already sad thinking there is less than a month till the solstice. I have an indoor and outdoor to do list and alternate between them during the day. Also the outdoor work is limited right now because of the swarms of blackflies that have arrived.

LOL! Sam & I were just talking about that very thing this morning.
BUT, I tell ya...he's got a year to two on me & can blow me away on getting stuff done during 14 +hrs daylight!!!

I, too, do love the xtra light. Only issue is work nights when I know I have to be up at 3am, and it is virtually impossible to get 5 hours sleep in!!!!

We let our big FG bunny out to enjoy a little leg stretching... he decided he liked to lounge between the bee hive blocks.
He's the spitting image of his Dad - Little Guy. I sold a FG doe yesterday and have 2 left now. The 7 mixed are all still for sale. Probably bring a few to CS. I'm still on the lookout for a Grey'Steel/Black FG doe. I need to freshen up the bloodlines and get some new colors.

I'm looking for a local feed store in the Sutton's Bay / Traverse City / Cedar area - prefer local, small business, and one that people would recommend. Any ideas for a good place for my chicken feed? We are new to the area and need to stock up.

Let me ask around. I have friends that live up there. I'll see what they recommend.

It is back to work today, I've had the last week off. I did a through clean out of my big coop, painted two small coops, moved birds, cleaned my basement, planted strawberries, chicken fenced the pigs (chickens were hanging with the pigs), and more. We also had a nice weekend and day yesterday. This week is the last week of school kids at work, then the following week Summer programs start.

Black flies are the worst. Tap- do you have any ducks? I don't have a black fly problem, but I have noticed that since I've had ducks, flies and mosquitoes are less of a problem. Its nice to be able to work outside without being eaten up by mosquitoes.

Hall's Feed (as in Hall's sweet corn) over by Moomers by West high school. I pay 13.something for layer, and 14 or 15.something for 20% and 23% for my broilers and chicks (that's for a 50# bag). Super nice people, AND it's non-GMO feed. They're open Mondays and Thursdays from 9-5, other times by appointment. Shoot me a pm if you need the address. I'm sure I have one of the feed bag tags around here SOMEWHERE.

I'm starting to feel like I'm NEVER going to finish putting my garden in. Of course, it's mostly my own fault because I keep buying more and more stuff to put in, but STILL! Last week I put in 30 Roma plants. I have another 10 plants (2 each of some sort of slicer, cherry, yellow, heirloom, and early girls) that I need to find a place for. Today I put in 42 pepper plants. I have an 8ft fence of snap peas growing nicely, radishes, carrots, parsnips, and beets all in (though the last 3 haven't germinated yet.....AND I got them in a few weeks later than I wanted). Herbs (6 kinds i think). Potatoes. And I still have to put in all of my zucchini, yellow squash, watermelon, and cantaloupes in. Being a 'farmer' is a lot more work than people think!

I also got a bunch of my wintersown flowers in the ground today. Lupine, foxglove, california poppies, and whatever the flowers were that the kids picked out (calendula and baby's breath maybe?). My morning glories are coming up along the fence too! I'm trying to stay on top of the weeding and watering in that bed this year so that it looks NICE for a change! AND my friend is giving me all the daisies I want; they are clearing out a flower bed that's gotten pretty crazy so they can put something else in. WOO HOO! Free flowers!
