Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

This may be a tad political in nature but it certainly is not partisan. I think that it is more educational than anything.
We are only a few weeks away from an election and voters should be educated when they cast their ballot.
I hope I am not stepping on any toes with this post.

Thanks for the link. I wish I could remember where I read that 4 or 5 chickens have less enviormental impact than 1 dog.

No hawks today, but this morning my little helper wasn't paying attention to where she was going while watching her girls and she got into some burrs. She was due for a bath anyways.

Aww. She's a cutie.

Well I was going to say thank goodness for technology, but it just dropped my post...lol
It looks like a beautiful day, but I'm stuck in the hospital waiting room while DH has surgery. Was to be a quick surgery.... but I've been here since 11am! They're running behind. He's got to come back in 2 weeks for another procedure. Bored!
Hope hubby's ok! And, you need a good book to read. Try that and lose yourself - no more bored silly, lol!

Most mornings I am up by 0530. However, the last couple it's been after 8. I wonder if it's because I've spent 6 of the last 7 days cutting, splitting, hauling, and stacking firewood for my old farmer friend. Once that wouldn't have affected me at all. Now I'm very much aware that I have more leaves on the ground than on the tree.

With the temperatures of late I am very much aware of how fast winter is approaching and of all I must do before it gets here. One task I hate but must do soon is cull at least a dozen older birds to reduce my flock. I'm debating freezer camp versus giving them to the nature center from raptor food.

I have 14 chickens and only get 2-3 eggs a day

400

Here's Copper, her mom is my best layer. Copper is a cross so I can't wait till she starts laying. In fact tomorrow she turns 20 weeks :fl. Still waiting for my new polish, EE and OE to start laying

My egg production has dropped 50% in the last couple of weeks. Yesterday I got 4 eggs from 10 layers.

Lela (BCM) is in a serious molt (poor thing looks horrid, I swear she hides cuz she's embarrased!). One (Maia, other BCM) is broody ..AGAIN!!

Maia's babies are now 23 weeks old...2 EEs & 1 OE...def can't wait for them to start laying! And my Black Ameraucana is ~28 weeks...any day now for her.

Good luck with that Black Ameraucana! Ours did not start until she was 10 months old...same with her sibs from same hatch. All later layers, but once they start, we got nice large/extra large blue/green eggs :)

My friend, trees make a lovely metaphor. I am sure all your hard work is much appreciated by your friend. I am also starting to feel my age as tasks are no longer just something I can whip through. The weakness in my hands is getting more apparent as I haul supplies.

I am sure the Nature Center would appreciate the food and it certainly would be less work for you. That would be my choice, two birds one stone.
