Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Aww Silly, so sorry to hear about your ewe.

I am specifically looking for Silver Campines.  If anyone is looking to re-home a couple from a hatchery that are still of laying age I would be interested in buying them.

Welcome to BYC and the Michigan thread. Sorry I can't help you. I know Sand Hill Preservation has Silver Campines, if you don't mind getting chicks.

Opa, did you get rid of all of your Vorweks and Welsummers?

Are they saying they have scabies?

No. They are saying some USDA regulation is requiring them to be screened for scabies... but after that they are not allowed to ever leave said anonymous facility. No one I have spoken to has any idea what is going on or what they are talking about.

There is a 97% chance of s*** AKA "Powdered Sugar" tomorrow according to weatherspark

Its BS like this that makes it awfully tempting at times to go Matrix - Lots of Guns on some bureaucratic office who think their red tape is useful.

Garden City would be a good place to start. ;-)

Taprock, I have seen the apparatus you are referring to but I can't remember what it was call. However, If you place your birds in a cone they are held captive with their head and neck exposed. A simple cut across the jugular bleeds them out quickly. Most processors I know use this technique.

I really hated putting my Vorwerk flock down but they were 6 years old and the rooster was infertile. I did keep my 2 year old Welsummer rooster and a cockerel and two pullets that hatched in August. Probably in April I will hopefully hatch out some more.

Has anyone ever had irises bloom twice. I was very surprised to discover blooms on a couple of ours.

This is a bit of hind sight and offered far too late to be effective.
You have a right to know by what authority this action has taken place. For one, the animal control donk should have had a warrant to seize your personal property (sad that livestock is considered property). Then secondly, "they" should have documentation of the USDA regulation for the screening. You will probably have to file a FOIA to find out where your property is being held. That is likely to be delayed or even redacted so resolution of this seizure will likely take a long time.

None of that helps you or your family right now. I wish I could do more. All I can do now is offer moral support and share your plight as best I can.
Good luck.
