Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

I shared this story elsewhere, but seeing as I haven't really posted anything funny lately...

Funny thing happened the other day when I got a few pumpkins for the birds. I have this HUGE bowie knife that I use to do the cutting. There is a Buddhist temple down the road and pair of monks were walking past the house on their daily walk. I had this knife in my hand, a bunch of chickens were just standing around waiting. I am looking down at the birds, the birds are looking up and me, and then I look up and see the monks staring at me in horror! It was hilarious. I took a pumpkin out of the back seat, set it on the ground and proceeded to cut it up. LOL, priceless.

Geez, and you didn't even get me on there! What gives!? Hehe, j/k. I am assuming Nova will tell me if we get a new friend. You'd tell me, right, Nova? Either that or she'll be warning them off.
Seems someone thought the mulch would look better all over the side walk. I was only gone about an hour.... the girls have been busy...

Hahaha. Wait, mulch goes in beds?

Mine was spent in two (2) different dentist's offices getting an emergency root canal.

Ouch! When I had my root canal, I was nearing the end of a fast, which I didn't want to do over again, so I told them to go ahead and do it without any numbing or pain relief.

Let's just say... that is not a choice I would make again. Hope it heals well and fast.

Everybody better have their cats locked up cause I am not to happy with them.

I'm glad you live far away from my cats... >.>
How do you still have Hostas??? Mine were a chicken salad bar and eaten to the ground!!

I still have Hostas, too, although they do really go at them in the Spring. :)

At the bottom of my page, there is an advert for Amazon, and what book are they advertising... My Brother Sam is Dead, and April Morning... How funny is that!

I don't think it is funny, I think it is totally creepy!
Knock knock Hi folks. I know I haven't been here to visit for a while. Been really busy and had some issues on the home thread. Hope ya all are OK.

Pffft, talk to us about thread issues when you lose your thread.

Kidding, I hope things get worked out.

my BO charged the cat for just looking in the direction of her chicks.

They don't do this all the time? My cats and chickens spend all day every day sneaking up on each other and charging, it always cracks me up! I kind of assumed it was normal... perhaps I should know better by now.

how do seramas walk around? when I see pics of them they are built so upright you would think they would fall over
lol.png
Good luck at the show,,, you have beautiful birds.

got hawks
We don't have the extreme type seramas. We raise the American Serama. Not as upright and extreme. Thanks for the luck.
I will be sure to check out your seramas, as I have never owned any but am interested in adding some to my silkie and cochin clan in the future. I was thinking if I kept a serama rooster, I would not have to worry about it successfully mating with my silkies and cochins and making strange little poofy headed and feather footed babies. Are they so small that I shouldn't have to worry about that happening?
They will still bree with your silkies and cochins. Where theres a will, theres a way. haha They are a great, friendly breed to raise though.
Do poulty shows sell birds? Because i have never been to one
They usually have a sales area at poultry shows. Most of the time you have to be entered into the show to sell birds there. We might be selling a few serama youngsters at the fowl fest coming up.
I dare not go to one. I have enough birds on my extensive want list. I don't think I need to add more.
They usually have some really nice birds and it is always hard to walk away from the area without buying anything.

It looked like no one was quoting 20 pages of posts, so I thought I had better do that. Dear lord you people are hard to keep up with.

Nova's story reminded me of how awesome I was earlier today. One of my hens is laying her eggs gods know where, so I was searching around trying to find them. I was looking by the garage and noticed some webs between the siding and the foundation, and since I am at war with black widows, I got down on hands and knees to inspect the webs. So I am crawling along the side of the garage, checking for black widows, not really watching where I am goin, and when I got to the corner of the garage, I met one of my chickens coming the other way. We scared the living crap out of each other! Well, I didn't crap, actually, she might've, I don't know, but she flew straight up in the air, squawking bloody murder! Startled me half to death, I screamed at the top of my lungs and fell over backwards... luckily no one was around to witness it. lol.

Anyone have tips on locating a nest? I swear I have searched everywhere I have ever seen the girls go, and more, but most of our property is woods. I thought it might be easy to find blue eggs in all the yellow and brown going on out there, but no sign of them. >:( I haven't had an egg from her in over a month, I know they are here somewhere, **** it!

Eh... I am pretty sure there was something else I wanted to ask about, but I am too tired to think.

Oh... Great Horned Owls. There are three of them around here all of a sudden, I thought they were very territorial? Do the ones up here migrate? And do they often hunt during the day? I know some species of owls do so more than others, but I don't know which. I've been trying to get my cats in earlier, though. o.O

Well, I seem to get a lot of mulch in MY bed, sometimes leaves too. Both girl dogs sleep with me so I have a brown bed spread.

I never had a tooth problem in my life, so this was a first for me. Despite topical numbing, lidocaine injections and some other stuff, that nerve was still very much alive. The worst was when the sodium hypoclorite ran down my throat. It's rather distressing when you bring your dentist to tears because she has hurt you so bad.

My hostas are done for the season and the hens don't seem to be interested in them. But they sure loved the fennel patch.

I had a huge owl try 2 days in a row to get my cat.........at 11 in the afternoon..........while he was tied to my camper stoop and i was sitting there! That was scary. Haven't seen him since, but they sure do keep tabs on what happens in their territory!
