Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Coincidentally, I am going to be in Frankenmuth on the 13th. Doubt that I could convince my entire family to take a side trip to Fowlfest though. They already let me visit Zeilinger's for wool.

Hey, Kimmie - so sorry about ANOTHER bird lost!

How frustrating & sad!!

I do not believe Icelandics are APA approved, so they wouldn't be able to compete anyway.
Whats APA approved?

It's strange that it's only the JG that are dying. If it was mold or anything else, the other birds would be affected also. Can it be genetic? Maybe because of their fast growth they are not getting something they need more of? Must be so frustrating to see those birds die and not be able to do anything about it. Hope you figure it out soon.

Just love all those chick pics!! Too adorable!!
The pullets and roo are from different places

Not genetic - Kimmie & I have been talking about this, and the pullets that died are hatchery stock - the cockerel was from me. So - completely different bloodlines.

I have not personally had any issues with my Giants; I also checked in with other folks who got chicks from me at Chickenstock, and no one else has lost any. So I don't think it can be e genetic issue.
The blue we got from you is fine with his girlfriend, they have their own place.

I got my blue orp from Shelleyb1969 at starbrightfarm.com Mine are beautiful. I don't know if she still has some, but you can give her a e mail and see.

I just received an e-mail newsletter from My Pet Chicken. They have blue orps.

Not sure that I would pay $14 for one. Still, it is a pretty bird.

oh Raz... I feel for ya. Hope you feel better soon!

I've got heritage chickens (salmon faverolles), though even when mature they don't have a large meaty carcass like the ones you can buy in the store, I think the flavor far out passes the store bought bird.
I would Love to see pics of your Faverolles SillyChicken

I'm planning on heading over to the Fowl Fest in Birch Run that is coming up in a few weeks. Do any of you attend that or show birds there so I can keep a look out for them? Also - are there any other poultry shows in Michigan other than the Spring and Fall Fowl Fests? I'd like to attend more shows but they are always too far away. http://www.fowlfest.org/
I'm going to FowlFest and I will be bring my Salmon Faverolles I'm not sure of any other shows in Michigan and this will be my first time going to FowlFest a friend of mine told me about it and i figured why not I'm hoping it will be fun.
