I've been going to this chiro for years & he has never hurt me. It's not the adjustment or anything he's doing that hurts, it's the tension & pulling from the traction machine (not really a machine either... nothing electronic about it... just weighted ropes). I'm pretty sure the pain is muscular stiffness & inflammation. But man it's a doozy & I'm a wuss.

Great letter BTW & good idea!
Go get a massage!!

So I just got done typing my Zip Code into the USDA site, it says I am Zine 6A (!) I thought I was Z5 (!) When did it change? RaZ, PM sent, would like to chat seeds with ya again this year.

Sam, couldn't you wear protective clothing? Put a bandage over the wound and wear long sleeve shirts. You're already wearing a jacket... Maybe, you're getting tired of taking care of them and this is your way out!

I know I feel that way sometimes, especially in winter. Just get rid of all the birds and I can snuggle on the couch in the warm house.
Huston's hen's husband had a wound that didn't close. He had to go to a wound specialist place to get it taken care of. Just hope things go well for you this time.

Hi everyone!

So the Missus and I are ready to make the plunge this year, so we're looking to get our first chicks. Can anyone recommend a hatchery, breeder, or any other resource to get a small starter flock in Michigan? We're hoping for 3-4 Barred Rocks and 3-4 Rhode Island Reds for a first go, but most resources I'm finding require a minimum purchase of 15+ birds.

We're in Rose Township (Oakland County) so if anyone knows of local breeder, we'd be more than willing to just drive over and pick up the chicks if necessary.

Thanks!
Let the fun begin! I remember my first birds that I got at Tractor Supply. They ended up being great Barred Rocks - many moons ago. Since then I've had hit and miss with breeders. You really need to do your research when using a breeder such as references, the BBB, or similar. As mentioned there are BYC folks that supply birds and hopefully they'll PM you with what they offer. I've gotten some nice heritage birds from people on here that are doing great. That said, you may want to consider mail orders. I believe Townline Hatchery in Zeeland does that although I'm not sure of the minimum order. Barred Rocks are very friendly birds while, IMO, RIR's can be a tad testy. Also, you may want to consider getting chicks that are immunized for Marek's. Starting with day old chicks requires a brooder for heat, but, again, IMO, raising them from day old is the most fun.

The chicks at TSC and FF&H usually come out in early spring. Townline supplies to these "box stores" but I think they are not immunized. And, I've seen the wrong breed in the wrong tank, so, you need to be careful that what you get is what you want sometimes. Once they had RIR labeled as NH. I still would get birds at either one of these stores though. That's where I get my ducks when I need them. Never had one problem with those ducks! Anyway, good luck and have fun.

We are taking a trip this weekend down to Rochester Hills/Flint. We have plans to stop at Trader Joes and Whole Foods to get hatching eggs. So if anyone wants some eggs let me know and i can pick them up, just pay for the cost of the eggs you want. i live in greenbush, mi so you would need to drive to oscoda, greenbush, lincoln, harrisville, or mikado to get your eggs. i will also be in mio on sunday. Happy to pick up chicks or eggs from other people along the way as well so long as your orders are paid for ahead of time with the egg/chick/chicken suppliers. Just shook me a pm if your interested. i know it is a long long trip to trader joes and whole foods from up north. i might also be running over to grand rapids if time allows.

Thank you for doing that. We all should be aware of this bill and the impact that it can have. It does seem a bit ludicrous that we need a need law to state what is already a legal right in the state. But since the attack on small farm operations and the change in the GAAMPs last April, I can see the need for some common sense legislation.

Let your elected representatives and senators know how you feel. Call, e-mail or send a letter. You can find your rep here: http://www.house.mi.gov/mhrpublic/
Tomorrow is the Ag Commissioners meeting. Two new commissioners will be introduced and the vote will be held on changes to the GAAMP that affects beekeepers. Wingless and I will be there and I'll let you know how it goes.

Okay I just email my Representative Brett Roberts.
