Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

TD, looks like your color is very good. How is your egg color?

So far, the eggs I've gotten are sky blue. I can't guarantee all of them will lay that color since a couple of pullets are a little younger than others and haven't started laying just yet. They should start laying anytime, though. So, I'll try to keep you updated.

TD are you still doing Welsumers?

I do still have a small flock of Welsummer hens, but I will be selling them this spring. I think I'm only going to raise Cream Legbars. I just don't have the time for so many chickens with everything else I do. :(

According to a University of Michigan ornithlogist it's a sparrow.
**** big sparrow........

Hope everybody has batten down their hatches and have everything they'll need for a day or two. I'm just seeing a couple of flurries of snow here, and that's from the mess that we're going to get hit with til about Monday morning. Only reason why my girls might want to go out tomorrow is because they've been cooped up the past 2 days.

I can understand the time crunch.....do you still have a Wellie roo?

The pair I got from you have had one pullet hatched by a friends broody last fall and I plan on hatching some more in a month or so.
He's also covering a blue, green and olive egg layers. Got some blues under a brood right now, 1 week to go!

nice photo!!!!
Hope all goes well for you Sam on Tuesday.

John, hope your dad recovers quickly as well.

DH Starts his new job tomorrow...Our drive way is solid ice, so we parked up by the road so it will be a chilly walk up to the cars in the morning, but we have a better chance of getting out... and less we have to have cleared out.

I made the mistake of stopping at the store yesterday........ it was terrible.....worse than Christmas! Luckily we have enough food for a year, other than milk. Can't wait till spring and we can get some fresh goat milk! At some point I'll stagger the breeding so we can have it year round. That's one of the perks of Nigerians.

I'm at a cross roads with some of my birds. They have been really good birds, friendly roos... but I think it may be time for some fresh stock. I've grown attached to a few of my birds so I don't want to get rid of them...(uggo, my roo without any feet, will always be able to stay) ... dilemma.

finally got time to read this article, how come I didn't see Garden City on their,? They seem to be against everything but standing in your front yard and maybe that too
GC has made the papers for a couple of different reasons this week. Perceived racial comments by the school superintendent and alleged sexual misconduct by former police.
Yet chickens remain a high profile "problem" in the city. SMH
