Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Congrats on the chicks! I hope to start hatching some Magpie ducklings in a month or two, when I get enough eggs flowing in. There is a lot of local interest in them.

We've got peeps coming from under the broody hen!!

congrats aart...cant wait to see them grow..ive been super busy with the birds...got to worm the new 7 peafowl today...that will take some time...also got the coolerbator just about done when its done ill put up some pics...then I get to start on the brooders for this season...well hope everyones day goes great...getting some freezing rain here right now.....grrrr

@aart
Congrats ..they are SO cute!
I had my first broody last April...what a cool experience, she hatched & raised 5; 1 of which just laid her first egg this week.

I will NEVER have chicks in the house again..a broody is the way to go!

I have a eggbound hen. Is there anything that I can do before I put her out of misery? I tried feeling for the egg, but can't find it.

You can give her Tums for calcium and lube up her vent. As stated above, the warm bath will help, along with holding her above steam. If you do this, keep her in a dark area. Good luck.

I had a eggbound silkie, she's okay now.

Congrats on the chicks :jumpy

100% hatch for the Winter Broody!!
One egg was 10-11 days old and had been in the fridge for 3-4 days.

Got em all set up for the cold snap, cross yer fingers they make it thru.

Mine had a 100% hatch, too!

You will see mama broody keeping her babies under her when it gets really cold...mine would migrate the whole flock to the feed dish and hover over the top of it so the babies could eat and not get out from under her wings. She hatched them during the single-digit negative-digit days :)

Victory is Mine!!!

Got the south arena door opened up today. It was frozen in solid. Hopefully, we can get a shipment of sawdust into our pit in the arena sometime this week. shoveled, mattocked, prided, tugged, salted, and hammered that sucker open today. And with all of the melt dripping off of the roof, my carhartt got its yearly washing.
