Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

welcome troyer
Hi Troyer, welcome to the Michigan thread. This thread is purely social, and we are pretty loose on the rules department, anyone can come and enjoy themselves here

Thanks to both of you, I appreciate it.

I PM'd Wynette (thread starter) and asked if it would be okay to join in with this group.
This is what I shared with Wynette,
I currently live in Pennsylvania. I grew up and lived in Michigan for 29 years. Is it okay for me to be a member in the Michigan thread? I don't have to post a lot, I just have a lot of interest in Michigan still, as most of my family lives there and we visit freqently.

Feel free to share your actual feelings concerning this, I won't be offended if you would rather not have a Pennsylvanian hanging around.
I'm from PA and they let me stay.

We have people from here, Ohio, Indiana and the occasional visitor from Washington. Last year at Chicken Stock there were people from PA and even Canada who attended.

So you are welcome to join. You can pay your dues directly to me...in cash...small used bills.

Hi folks.  I've been absent for a few months, and have been reading along for a week or so.  I just didn't have anything to say.  But I do now.  Our Easter Egger, Mabel finally laid her first egg yesterday.  She hatched last February or March, so almost a full year old.  I figured she started laying over the summer, and her eggs were brown.  Nope: it's a lovely pale green.

We also added a new bird to our flock.  Pigwidgeon is a (for real) parakeet that my daughter got for Christmas.  Parakeets are strange beings.

Sending thoughts of healing and wellness to those who need them.  And happy birthday/new chicks/new coop plans to all.

I kept parakeets from very little until before getting chickens, any questions feel free to ask! I can explain a lot of their body language and calls. "Che che che" is a complaining; the shrill "shreedleet shreedleet " called loudly over and over is calling out for someone; a bonded keet can be distressed and pluck out feathers missing a human companion. Face poof is happy. Face poof and tail poof both mean you might get bit. Going all skinny looking is fear. Poofy in the body area can be content or sick- watch the tail whether it is carried normal or pointed down in sickness. They like some human foods. You will hear it is a no-no but my first keet ate people food and lived to be 12! They can talk very limited. My first said "love you" and screamed my name when he wanted me, neither which was coached and only said in context never random. Only time he swore was at a girl that swore a lot but didn't like me; i wasn't around to witness it but i guess she leaned up to his cage and tried to talk nice and he screamed a few bad words at her :p i never tought him that either. Very smart and learn on their own if you are fortunate to get a true bond. His successors never did. Still miss him.
